Publisher's Description

The Holy Trinity of Christian theology is either incomprehensible or hopelessly abstract to most people. Why bother with it today? Robert A. Jonas reveals, in this strikingly original work, how opening the mysteries of the Trinity is key to discovering the Divine within and around us. As the poet Rumi said, “Don’t look for me in a human shape. I am inside your looking.” This approach to the Trinity, although faithful to ancient Christian doctrines, is not focused on dogma or belief, exploring instead spiritual practices that transform our awareness of God, each other, and ourselves.

Author Bio

Dr. Robert A. Jonas is a spiritual guide, psychologist, author, and musician. He is the founder and director of The Empty Bell, a contemplative retreat center and sanctuary for Christian-Buddhist dialogue and practice in Western Massachusetts. He earned a doctorate in education and psychology at Harvard, followed by several years practicing as a psychologist. Jonas then entered Weston Jesuit School of Theology and received a Master of Theological Studies. He is the editor of Henri Nouwen: Writings, in Orbis’ “Modern Spiritual Masters” series, and The Essential Henri Nouwen.

Editorial Reviews

“For Jonas the Trinity is what we might call a divine way of life. Humans made in the image of God likewise are made for this way of life, psychologically, socially, and spiritually.” —S. Mark Heim, Samuel Abbot Professor of Christian Theology at Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School

“This integrative approach and practical orientation centered on direct spiritual experience will resonate with all who long to unite with the Infinite.” —Philip Goldberg, author of American Veda: From Emerson and the Beatles to Yoga and Meditation

“Jonas explores themes that are central to my heart, and so important for contemplative Christians who wonder how to access the Triune Mystery in their spiritual practices.” —Ruben Habito, author, Healing Breath: Zen for Christians and Buddhists in a Wounded World

“Artfully shows how we can awaken to the Holy Trinity within ourselves and experience extraordinary holiness in the midst of the ordinary.” —Rev. Dr. Stephanie Rutt, Founding Minister of the Tree of Life Interfaith Temple
