Publisher's Description

’For me, prayer is an upward leap of the heart, an untroubled glance toward heaven, a cry of gratitude and love which I utter from the depths of sorrow as well as from the heights of joy.’ -- St. Therese of LisieuxThis is a book of prayer. In it are the heartfelt longings and joyful utterances of psalmists, saints, and sages. These ageless petitions and praises are pathways, guiding those who pray them into deeper experiences with God.Dawn to Dark is an invitation to join our voices with those who have gone before us, uniting our prayers with theirs in a combined chorus of heavenly worship. This book introduces the ancient practice of fixed-hour prayer, through which day and night are transformed into sacred moments of adoration, grace, and holy communion.Designed to enhance but not replace personal prayer, this book is a timely and timeless resource for those seeking a vibrant and deep prayer life.

Publisher's Description

Ordinary books are simply read.
Dawn to Dark is not an ordinary book.
In this fresh compilation that draws heavily from Scripture, the Book of Common Prayer, and writings of the Church Fathers, Dawn to Dark invites readers to transform their prayer lives as they observe the ancient Christian practice of fixed-hour prayer. Though this book relies on written prayers as a medium for deeper communion with God, it is meant to include and strengthen a person's own freely expressed personal prayers.
Participants of Dawn to Dark prayer will experience a practice that is liturgical yet lively, communal yet deeply personal. Broken into four parts, the book's design is intentionally compact and flexible for readers both young and old. From an introduction that provides historical context for the importance of fixed-hour prayer to two sections of fixed-hour prayers that readers can practice throughout the day, author R. Douglas Jones has created a book that is fully customizable and accessible.
Dawn to Dark is a timely and timeless resource for those seeking a vibrant and deep prayer life.
