Publisher's Description

A long time ago, women bent on exercising their wit and prowess in a kingdom not their own made treason and murder fair game. Marriage became manipulation, a means to an end. Children were the enemy. And the days of the House of David were numbered--unless one woman could find the strength to conquer them all.

When I purchased this book I thought I was getting a mystery novel with intrigue. I was right, but I didn't expect it to be from the Bible. I loved it and am looking forward to more stories from Ginger Arrett. Will be great to know when the next 2 books come out.

Bringing Christian History together with truth and fiction, is a

blessing to the reader. T.L. Higley gave such insight into what the first followers of Jesus Christ experienced, in a way I could see and feel their lives. Our God will always leave a remnant. And the author did a most excellent way of writing it for us.

Startling clarity is the hallmark of this narrative based on the 2 Chronicles account of the reign of Jehoshophat (near the end), Jorham and then his most evil Phoenician wife Athaliah over David's Kingdom of Judah. Since Athaliah is the daughter of King Ahab of Israel, she is imbued with evil personified by Jezebel (her mother, most likely) from her earliest memories which are filled with terror. Every page magnified these Biblically true events with real humanity, character, color and culture, and the climactic clash of good from God (Yaweh) against evil from Satan. Ginger Garrett is a wonder! I'll keep reading what she presents!

This is the story of Jezebels daughter, Athaliah, a Baal worshiper who was given in marriage to Jehoram, a descendant of David. It really shows you that the Bible is still the best story ever written. Its got a little bit of everything - love, marriage, betrayal, intrigue, murder, amazing miracles, wars, faith, prophecy - I mean, its simply amazing to get all of that in one book. The genre of biblical fiction (fiction based on bible stories) takes advantage of the wealth of material that God already provided.I simply loved, loved, loved this book. From page one I was completely drawn in and couldnt put it down. The characters were so alive and the world so vividly painted. I was being taught and entertained at the same time. This was a bloody, horrible time in the history of Gods children; the Jews. A dark page in their history as many turn away from Yahweh. Dark Hour is compellingly written and most exciting to me - the first in a trilogy! Ginger Garrett has done a fantastic job staying true to history while creating a fantastic story.

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I write at odd hours. This week it was from midnight until 4am. I do try to keep a set appointment during the day with my computer, though.

What was your motivation behind this project?  It is such a riveting story! It's an epic battle between good and evil, with women in the central roles. There are also many cultural themes that resonated: whether tolerance can ever really work, for example.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  This story is not well known, but critical to understanding our role as women in the Bible. The heroine in the story, as in the Biblical account, is a woman who risked her life to save Joash, the king who would be in Christ's lineage.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I was deeply affected as a child by C.S. Lewis and James Herriott. C.S. Lewis taught me to hope, Herriott taught me to observe.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Chosen: The Lost Diaries of Queen Esther, was recently nominated for the Christian Book Award. I hope you love Dark Hour, which does have a strong redeeming message.
