When new evidence arises to suggest the convicted man wasn't the murderer, she's subpoenaed to testify in the new trial. Afraid to go back into that world, Kate only agrees if Tony DeLuca, the deputy Marshal who protected her during the original trial, escorts her to St. Louis.

CozyWriter'sDen4 Stars Out Of 5Fast paced!September 16, 2017CozyWriter'sDenQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The second book in the Defenders of Justice series by Nancy Mehl did not disappoint. Following on the heals of Fatal Frost (See the link HERE ) Dark Deception maintains the clever, fast paced action that I loved in the first book. Nancy Mehl has a knack for turning out a nail-biting thriller and the book had me hooked from the first page to the very last.
In addition to being wonderfully entertaining, Dark Deception never failed to give honor to God. I say this because the characters were reminded of Biblical principles during their struggles and also grew in their faith throughout the story. It was wonderful to see a Christian author seamlessly weave a Christ filled message into her story. Too often these days "Christian" authors get by with only a brief (if that) mention of God. Bravo, Nancy Mehl!
I do have a warning for those wanting to read this book, however.... I had to turn all the lights on while reading it and I was jumpy for hours after finishing it. The story totally hooked me and the 'bad guys' were certainly twisted! So, stand warned: You will likely have to finish it in one sitting and you'll want to tuck your feet safely up on the couch while devouring this mystery.
Thank-you to Graf Martin Communications and to Baker Publishing House for a complimentary copy of Dark Deception in exchange for my honest opinion.

Melissa5 Stars Out Of 5Couldn't read it fast enoughAugust 7, 2017MelissaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I can't remember the last time I read a book so fast. I could have finished it in twenty-four hours but I needed to go to sleep.
I loved this book. One thing after another happens and just when you think it is over it isn't. My mind kept trying to figure out what was going on. I was wrong on several things but one I had a feeling about the whole time but even that I didn't get the motivation correct.
Kate's story is heartbreaking, witnessing her sister being murdered. She really struggles to deal with this and it isn't until she finally gives it to Jesus that true healing can begin. The way Nancy describes that process is beautiful.
Tony is a wonderful hero who just wants to protect Kate. There romance is very sweet and adds nicely to the story.
Overall, I highly recommend this one. I think it might be favorite Nancy Mehl book yet.
A copy of this book was given to me by the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Nancy Mehl continues her Defenders of Justice series, with Dark Deception. I enjoy series of books because we meet characters in previous novels and when new book begins, I feel like I getting to know the characters better as the characters develop and the stories unfold.
Tony DeLuca is once such character. He is a deputy Marshall we first met in Fatal Frost. Tony was previously tasked with protecting an attempted murder survivor. The survivor he was protecting, was Katie O'Brien. Katie was attacked with her twin sister by a serial killer and it was her eye witness testimony that sent her attacker to prison.
Unfortunately, new evidence is unearthed and Katie must testify again and face her attacker. Tony must find Katie where she's begun her new life and persuade her to return. Things are not what they seem in the sleepy town Katie has chosen to hide in and it becomes more apparent as her safety is threatened.
Nancy Mehl's Dark Deception is a great, fast paced read that kept me turning the pages!
