I have helped lead this study at our church several times. The study focuses on whole foods instead of processed foods. God's food doesn't have an ingredient list. Faith, focus, and friends essentials for kist as important as the food and fitness. you can't make permant change with only will power. cleveland clinic's functional medicine department joined us to do lab work for everyone before and after the six week study. The results were amazing. weight loss occured but the important part was how much healthier we were. Many of the small groups have continued meeting biweekly and doing the next 20 week study which includes four sessions on each of the five essentials. This first study is the best way to start but it's great to continue with your group since it takes longer than six weeks to really change your lifestyle and stick with it. (The second study is even better than the first). This hardback book is a must read and then a great resourse to refer back to. You can do this study with making one change a week but to get the quickest results, do the ten day detox. it really jumpstarts your health. Many in my group did the detox longer because once your taste buds change, you really love the food choices. eating processed foods (which includes sugar) hijacks your taste buds and sits at your waistline since the body doesnt know what to do with it. i highly recommend doing this study with a group of friends. l've been in bible study with several friends for years but doing the daniel plan together for a year has made us so much closer. We are better together.

Okay, so the name is a little hokey, but I get it: leveraging the concept of Daniel living out a counter-cultural existence while in exile. Long story short, if God truly cares about all of life (for true, every little aspect of my life), then every bit matters, including my emotional/mental health, food, physical activity, friends, etc. This study helps fill in the gaps that so many studies fail to address.

I purchased the kit recently and although there is no plan stated of when to read the book or watch the dvd, I began by watching the dvd. The sessions will not teach you anything, they seem to be a way to put the "experts" in the limelight. The host is a mousy little lady who speaks very rapidly and in my opinion does not possess the ability for the job, she is the director of the dept in the church so it must have fallen in her lap. She is not what I would call audience friendly in that you just want her to stop talking. The sessions tell you that exercise is important, fruits and vegetables are good for you and doing the plan in a group is more fun. Each session highlights an exercise which will not increase your heart rate, they are basic things like squatting over a chair, and a food section where two obnoxious chefs show you their version of a smoothie.

This dvd seems like they just threw it together last minute. If you had never heard a thing in your life about diet and exercise you might think it was great but I felt it was rushed and poorly done especially if the point is showing off the experts.
