Series: Southern Crimes
Dangerous Passage exposes a fully-realized and frightening world where every layer peeled back reveals more challenges ahead. Romantic suspense fans will be hooked from the start by Lisa Harris's first installment of the new Southern Crimes series.
Crystal3 Stars Out Of 5Mediocre crime novelMarch 8, 2017CrystalQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Detective Avery North has a mystery to sort out. After finding a second murder victim, similarities in the crime scenes point to a serial killer. Both victims are young, Asian women with magnolia tattoos. Assisting her team with the case is assistant medical examiner, Jackson Bryant. Jackson's bent for details and keen observation skills prove valuable to Avery's search for the killer, but the caring attention the dashing examiner displays toward Avery may endanger her heart. Ultimately, Avery's search for clues to the homicides uncovers a dark network of international crime right in her own Atlanta neighborhood.
The plot in Dangerous Passage was neither stellar nor horrible- it was just mediocre in my opinion. Elements of danger and suspense were sprinkled throughout the book, but the story was slow at times. I was hoping for more development in the romance between Avery and Jackson. One of the better points of the novel was a strong female lead character. Avery is smart, determined, brave, and devoted to her job as a detective.

MD5 Stars Out Of 5Simple, Real, Faithful, a bit Romantic, but most Importantly, MysteriousNovember 7, 2015MDQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5While I have never read many mysteries in my time ( Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys did very little to impress me), I believe I have a right to claim this novel a great read! The author has no problem mixing subtle hints of southern charm into the chaotic world of badges and bodies. Every clue leading to another, much like the longing glances between main character Avery North and her heart throb Jackson. Yes, this book perfectly reflects the real life hardships of juggling family, faith, work, love, and a mending heart as we are introduced to the struggles of Avery's life. This book is simply wonderful; it will appeal to every need to anyone's inner bookworm.

Tell us a little about yourself. Im a mom to three wonderful kids, which as you probably know means my job description consists of everything from chef, to chauffer, to counselor. I also work with my husband in ministry where we live in Mozambique, run a non profit to assist the physical needs of those we work with, called The ECHO Project, and of course, I love to write.
What was your motivation behind this project? Several years ago, I wrote Blood Ransom, a novel that focused on human trafficking in Africa. At the time, I had no idea this was an issue in the US. With this new series, I decided that setting this story in the US, the backdrop of human trafficking would not only make an exciting story, but would also help people become aware of this very real issue.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? In the story, my main character, Avery North, struggles to balance life as a widow and a single mom with a full-time career. She has to come to the point where she realizes her weaknesses and fears and rely only on Gods strength. In our own lives, we often feel inadequate to follow Gods call, but never forget that the God who created the universe loves us and wants to be our strength. He came to heal the empty and broken hearted, and those searching for freedom and hope. Thats what I hope readers take away from this story.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I have to confess that Avery and I share some of the same fears. It's easy to run from one appointment to the next, while crossing the urgent tasks off our to-do list, but if we don't stop to find out who God really is, to really stat to know him and build that relationship, what have we gained? My prayer is that we can find the courage to step out of our comfortable world and see the hurting, the lonely and helpless around us and find ways to be Jesus to them. The amazing thing is that in turn, our own lives will be made richer because of it!
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Currently, I'm reading the Heavenly Man, which is a remarkable story about Chinese Christian brother Yun. I've been so inspired by his story. It's a reminder to me that everything I do be for His glory!
