Tell us a little about yourself. Pastor Michael Hunter has been involved in teaching, music, and prophetic ministry for more than thirty years. He has been a member of the Christian Ministers Association of Canada since 1987, and he served as Senior Pastor for three years at Christian Believers Assembly in Vernon, BC. He currently functions as an associate pastor at Lake Country Life Center in the Okanagan district of British Columbia, Canada
What was your motivation behind this project? Over many years of ministry, one of the great heartaches for me has been to see the disturbingly large number of professing Christians who manage to get themselves embroiled in the very same kinds of sin that ensnares the unbelievers of the world, destroying their families, their health and their reputation as Christians. I do not believe that this is what Jesus wants for us. The book of Hosea declares "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" and I believe that many Christians today are being destroyed because they have been taught a deficient, false gospel which misses the vital link between repentance and the path to salvation.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I believe this book will help readers discover that, even though the path to salvation is a narrow one, God has made it so to protect us from the harmful consequences of self-induced evil. To truly live for God is not bondage and burden. It is love, joy, and peace in your heart. It is safety, it is freedom, it is victory over fear. God truly loves us more than anyone, and what He asks of us is absolutely always in our best interests.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? This book is not fiction. It is my story, the story of the illegitimate son of a young immigrant woman who was on the run from her abusive husband. It's about growing up with PTSD, alcoholism, abuse, and family dysfunction. It's about thinking that you know what God and Christianity are all about, and yet falling so far into sin that it destroys everything in your life, so completely that you become suicidal and eventually end up in maximum security prison, but that is only the first part of the story. It's also about finally understanding that after all this, God still loves me and wants me back. It's the story of a prodigal son hearing his true Father in Heaven calling him to come back. It's about one man's journey home to Father God, and I am that man.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I believe that, in addition to the current charismatic/spirit-filled renewal of faith in the person and gifts of the Holy Spirit still being available and valuable to modern day Christianity, there will be one more important revival before Jesus comes for His bride. In the great race to accept and embrace the signs and wonders and miracles which come with faith to receive the Holy Spirit and His gifts, many in modern Christianity are totally missing the important reason for the revival of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Yes, God's desire is to show compassion, healing, deliverance to all who are oppressed by the devil, but primarily, the signs, wonders and miracles are to get our attention and help build our faith to believe that what God has to say to us is true and vitally important to our future. Yet, part of God's message is becoming increasingly absent in the so-called salvation messages that are being preached from many modern day pulpits. My motivation is that when Jesus opens the door to heaven and catches us up to meet Him, I don't want anybody who has ever heard me preach or read my books to be left banging on the door after it is closed, only to hear Jesus say, "depart from me evildoers, I do not know you."
