Seasons of GraceAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5A Ton of Fun for Family DevosJuly 15, 2019Seasons of GraceAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5What did I think of this book?
I found it to be quite catchy and interesting. Definitely a winner with kids! Blowing things up, breaking things, and lots of other "dangerous" object lessons will certainly make learning about purity, faithfulness to God, trust, and other topics much more interesting.
There are a lot of items needed for this devotional, so it will take some advance planning. Personally, I found that although I liked it a lot, I may not actually use it at home, but instead share it with my kids youth director as I am pretty sure the teen group would be a great audience for a lot of these dangerous devotions. They are sure to retain the information once they do the activities.
I can't wait to see how they like it!
I would definitely recommend this devotional for parents or group leaders.
It's kind of wacky and fun and a super exciting way to learn!
I was blessed with a copy of this book courtesy of Revell. I wasn't asked to review this book positively and all opinions are my own.
Natalie Walters4 Stars Out Of 5A fun devotional for the whole family!July 15, 2019Natalie WaltersLet the games begin!! This family devotional is chock full of fun and adventure that'll engage the whole family. The activities included surround solid Biblical principles along with Scripture that'll resonate with each family member long after the laughter ends. With 52 devotional activities it gives families the perfect opportunity to invest in one another and the Word of God.
The only thing I will say is that this isn't a devotional you can just pick up on a whim. Each of the activities do require materials and a decent amount of time (some for prep) so it's going to take a bit of planning but in the end I believe it's a fun and worthwhile book of devotions that offers a unique way of bringing the family together.

vics495484 Stars Out Of 5Family fun!July 4, 2019vics49548Quality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4What a fun devotional for families! Each chapter has an activity to do with your kids. Just know that some are pretty detailed so this is meant to be done together. Add in a teaching lesson and scripture and you have yourself a year of memories. Author Tim Shoemaker also gives some good tips for holding a child's interest when doing devotions, which is a great addition for parents.
The down side to this book is that several of the activities require a lot of preparation. So while this is great for DIY families others may find it a challenge. But hey, give it a try. You may love it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
MoonpiePRYORAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5FAMILY DEVOTIONALS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!July 2, 2019MoonpiePRYORAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When our girls were growing up family devotions were sometimes hard on all of us. We had them upon rising and all of us were a little bit sleepy. The girls would doze off or lay now so we had to make rules. While we were being obedient parents by spending time in the word with our children, I am not sure how much they remembered! I wish this book were available then and I bet they do too!
It makes the children participants in the devotionals, not a captive audience! Scriptural principles are taught with exciting, fun and very unique ideas. This concept will capture the kid's attention and make what they are learning memorable. There are 52 devotionals, one for each week of the year! I liked them all but some of my favorites were: "Watermelon Drop, Spudzooka, and Life Lessons from a Graveyard".
The book begins with the chapter, "Ending the Stop and Start Syndrome." It has 14 suggestions to help your children get the most of the devotionals, ideas to help you build on being consistent and successful in your family time in the Word. I found these very helpful!
The theme of each devotional is at the beginning. The items needed and advanced preparation for the parent is listed out and very clear. Some of the planning is quite a bit, but isn't it worth is to teach your children the Bible? Granted it you may not have some of the items suggested but you can easily borrow them from someone who does! Or better yet come up with a creative substitution.
Next the author explains how to execute the activity. I was impressed about "Teaching the Lesson". It isn't too long but gets to the point and brings up many ideas that might be overlooked. Finally "Summing It Up" helps bring it all together by sharing how the devotional applies to everyday life. I see this book as a win-win for parents and children. The parent will be obeying God and the children will be learning and applying.
I received this book from Revell Publishing in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.
