Bias in the Media explores how the press turned on media darlings John McCain and Hillary Clinton after they were perceived as the more conservative candidates in their respective races against the more liberal Senator Barack Obama. It shows how Levy was vilified by the liberal media after he took a no-nonsense conservative approach to dealing with the consequences of illegal immigration on his suburban county. It explores how donations received by Levy's campaign were seen by the media as a confirmation of his popularity when he was a Democrat, but were considered untoward after he became a Republican. As a Democrat, his construction of a new jail was seen as an unavoidable response to a state mandate, yet as a Republican it was reported by the liberal media to have been built in order to obtain donations from vendors. There are scores of specific examples on the local, state and national level of this blatant bias.
Over time Levy became shocked at how much information in print is outright false sometimes due to negligence and sometimes deliberately so because it helped gotcha reporters promote their false narratives that they hoped would get them their coveted Pulitzer.
You will read about how the bias is at times a result of a reporter:
1)consciously omitting information that counters his or her narrative;
2)deciding what will or will not be covered in the first place;
3)determining who will or will not be quoted in an article, or
4)making the subjective determination as to what is morally right or wrong (for instance, opposing illegal immigration is racist).
There have been many books written by political observers about a perceived liberal bias in the media. There are few, if any, that have come from the perspective of an individual who actually lived it after switching his political affiliation.
Levy was a rare public servant who was both a Democrat and a Republican, an executive and a legislator, a statewide and local representative. The change in media coverage Levy experienced firsthand after switching his party from Democrat to Republican was nothing less than startling.
