Product Description

Shaina Sterling hates the lie she's living, but feels she has no choice. Soon after the shocking death of her husband, the young widow learns how deeply entrenched in debt his lavish lifestyle has left her. To protect the legacy of his name, as well as her own reputation and stately home at Sterling Hall, Shaina secretly sells off valuable possessions, piece by piece, hoping her wealthy Denver friends never learn the truth. Successful rancher Sloan Remington knows far more about Shaina than she realizes, but because of a promise he made to her husband as he lay dying, he guards her secrets as carefully as he looks after her safety. But soon, a series of additional misfortunes make Shaina beholden to him-and threaten to expose a truth about himself that he's long worked hard to keep hidden. Will trials and tragedies bring these two together? Or will secrets-and the cost of exposing them-drive them apart forever?

Author Bio

Once upon a time, best-selling author Loree Lough literally sang for her supper, performing before packed audiences throughout the Midwest. Now and then, she blows the dust from her 6-string to croon a tune or two for her grandkids or to sing at weddings or funerals, but she mostly just writes. Over the years, her stories have earned hundreds of industry and Readers' Choice awards and 4- and 5-star reviews.Loree has nearly five million copies of her books in circulation, and in March 2014, she added her hundredth published book to the shelves. She has written fiction and nonfiction for kids and adults (2,500-plus articles and 68 short stories), and four of her novels have been optioned for movies. To date, there are almost 66,000 letters in her "Reader Mail" file, and she has answered every one, personally. (A carton of books is on its way to Corinna P. of San Antonio, Texas, for writing the 65,999th letter. Corinna said she plans to donate the books to her local library!)Loree loves sharing learned-the-hard-way lessons about the craft and the industry, and her comedic approach to teaching makes her a favorite (and frequent) guest of writers' organizations, book clubs, private and government institutions, and college and high school writing programs in the U.S. and abroad.A writer who believes in "giving back," Loree dedicates a portion of her income to Soldiers' Angels, Special Operations Warrior Foundation, and several other worthwhile organizations (see the "Giving Back" tab at her Web site, http://www.loreelough.com, for a complete list). She splits her time between a tiny home in the Baltimore suburbs and an even tinier cabin in the Allegheny Mountains, where she continues to perfect her Critter Tracks Identification skills. She shares her life with her real-life hero, Larry, who rarely complains, even when she adds yet another item to her vast collection of "wolf stuff."

Loree Lough in her new book, Currency of the Heart Book One in the Secrets on Sterling Street series published by Whitaker House brings us into the lives of Shaina Sterling and Sloan Remington.

From the back cover: Shaina Sterling hates the lie shes living, but feels she has no choice. But soon, a series of additional misfortunes make Shaina beholden to himand threaten to expose a truth about himself that hes long worked hard to keep hidden.

Will trials and tragedies bring these two together? Or will secretsand the cost of exposing themdrive them apart forever?

Loree Lough has managed to put a lot of story into this story and all I can say is well done! Shaina is a very interesting person who doesnt want 1882 Denver society to know how destitute her late husband left her. Sloan is not only a hero but a really nice person who I wish was real and a friend of mine. These two need each other in business if they plan to prosper. They really need each other and draw closed when the epidemic hits and Sloan is involved with transportation and Shaina goes back to being a nurse. Ms. Lough has managed to weave the romance between Shaina and Sloan in such a way that it just captivates you. She makes you care for all the characters, secondary or not, and their journey. This is also just plain fun and interesting as well. Dont start this book late at night because it will cost you sleep.

Shaina Sterling is a widow that has lost almost everything to her name. Sloan is a rancher, who also owns a hotel and acquires a manufacturing plant from Shaina's father-in-law. James and Mable have been employees at the ranch since Sloan arrived there at a young age. Mable, more mother than housekeeper to Sloan, has an accident the day after Shaina's home is burned to the ground. Sloan asks Shaina to help take care of Mable and take over her responsibilities at the ranch. To see how the relationship between Shaina and Sloan develop you will need to preorder copy of the book.

I received this book as an advance email copy for an honest review. In the acknowledgments Loree gives thanks to a friend for the use of parts of one of his eulogies so it will not come as a surprise that there is a death in the story. I won't reveal who dies but say that it isn't the death that brought me to tears, but Loree's description of how Shaina tends to the person while preparing the body for burial that did. I also enjoyed how Loree stayed true to her character's personalities when the relationship between Shaina and Sloan is "started" so to speak. (I don't want to give it away.)

I loved this book. Loree weaves together a wonderful love story, historical information, and hero/heroine problem solving. Strong characters and vivid descriptions are Loree's signature. This one is so very hard to put down once you begin. I forced myself to read slowly to savor and be able to write a good review. I highly recommend this to current fans and most importantly to new readers of Loree Lough, too.

This review was written for Currency Of The Heart - eBook.
This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be my last. The author does a wonderful job of capturing the spirit of the 1800's in Colorado. I loved the story line and the characters, and read it in one afternoon because I didn't want to put it down. I definitely am looking forward to the second book in this series. I do recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a really good Christian historical fiction book.

This is a charming and delightful story. While it is set in late 1800's Denver, it has the feel of Any Small Town America.... lots of nostalgia here too. Loved the characters, and got to where I felt I was sitting at the table having coffee with them! I laughed, I cried, I sighed and fell in love... I didn't want this book to end and can't wait for the next one in this series.
