I love reading children's books, and this one looked very colorful and fun, something that I thought my nieces and nephews would be sure to love.

Curious Creatures shares about various animals from creation and what makes them special.

    The illustrations:

The pictures are beautiful and fun, great photography.

    How strong is the book?

This is a sturdy hardcover book.

    Who the book is for:

The back of the book says that it is for ages four through eight, but I would think that younger children would enjoy it, too. I know that my two year old niece would.

    What I liked:

The colorful and fun pictures are great.

The facts about the animals are interesting and fun.

The look of the book is really cool.

    What I didn't like:

There is some environmentalist brainwash in the book that bothered me and that stopped me from fully supporting this book.

    My conclusion:

Overall, this is a good read for kids.

I give Curious Creatures 4 out of 5 stars.

Now I can officially doubt no more, it is time to add Zoology to the planner for 2014-2015. I received (free from BookLook for the purpose of review) a copy of Made by God: Curious Creatures 4 Books in 1. This awesome hardback book includes 4 Level 2 I Can Read Books: Rain Forest Friends, Jungle Beasts, Polar Pals, & Curious Creatures Down Under. My 6 year old was so excited about this book he already took it and read through a good portion of it but studying it in conjunction with some other books will make for a wonderful semester of science.

My favorite features of Curious Creatures are:

*It explores the unique qualities God gave animals

*The pictures are vibrant and adorable

*There are so many facts included- over 200!

    *It is easy to read

*It is organized in an easy to follow pattern

*It is inexpensive (a biggie for homeschool budgets) at just $9.99

This wonderful book of animals will be available on May 6, 2014.

I received a free copy of this book from BookLook for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.

Curious Creatures is a great new book to share with a 4-8 year old who loves to learn about God's creatures. This book is a compilation of four titles in the I Can Read! Made By God series: Rain Forest Friends, Jungle Beasts, Polar Pals, and Curious Creatures Down Under.

In Curious Creatures, each of the 4 sections of the book features 4 different animals. Here is the breakdown:

    Rain Forest Friends:

    - Anaconda

    - Bengal Tiger

    - Spider Monkey

    - Toucan

    Jungle Beasts:

    - Panther

    - Anteater

    - Elephant

    - Iguana

    Polar Pals:

    - Emperor Penguin

    - Arctic Tern

    - Polar Bear

    - Arctic Fox

    Curious Creatures Down Under:

    - Koala

    - Kangaroo

    - Echidna

    - Platypus

I do not own any of the 4 individual titles, but just from looking at previews, I believe this compilation is a larger format. The cover of Curious Creatures measures approximately 9 1/2" x 9 1/2".

The pictures are big, clear, and colorful. (There is at least one picture on every two-page spread, but generally there are two pictures per two-page spread.) The text is easy to read, and the bonus facts on the side of each page are interesting. Curious Creatures is informative and I enjoy that it always comes back to how God created and cares for each creature.

And at less than $10 - Curious Creatures is a book that is a perfect choice for a gift.

    Nice Resource for Emerging Readers

Made by God: Curious Creatures is a 4 Books in 1 volume of Level 2 I Can Read titles, including: Rain Forest Friends, Jungle Beasts, Polar Pals, and Curious Creatures Down Under. Targeted for ages 4-8, this book is is appropriate through all elementary ages and even for older reluctant readers.

Curious Creatures is full of facts about animals written in narrative form, with little sidebars throughout and large color photographs on every page. An older student writing a report on animals will find this book useful, and younger readers will enjoy discovering all kinds of weird and wonderful creatures. So much learning is packed into this book. Look at this passage, for example:

"Echidnas live all over Australia. They like deserts, forests, and hills. As long as they find their favorite foods -- ants and termites -- they are happy. Echidnas do not have teeth. They catch their dinner with a sticky tongue and crush the bugs before eating. Echidnas are nocturnal so they eat at night" (p. 114-115).

First of all, this paragraph is spread over two pages, and each sentence is on a double-spaced line by itself and printed in a slightly larger font. This makes it easy for emerging and reluctant readers to follow, but it is presented in a way that keeps it from seeming "babyish."

Also, there is a gradual introduction of more difficult vocabulary, like Echidna and Australia and nocturnal, but mostly one- and two-syllable words so young readers aren't overwhelmed.

Then there are the facts presented -- just in this paragraph alone, we learned geography, animal behavior, biology/zoology, and the meaning of the word nocturnal.

The sidebars on these two pages, along with the photographs, provide further information about the echnida's body, life span, reproduction, and habitat. (The echidna is a monotreme, by the way -- a mammal that lays eggs!)

The best part of all, is that this compilation of books is written from a biblical worldview, and the information is presented from a creationist perspective. Everything is presented as being made by God for a purpose.

Curious Creatures is a wonderful cross-curricular resource, and it is supplementing our science studies. But, for any animal lover, it is a fun book for pleasure reading and will entice kids to delve inside and not only learn more about God's marvelous creation, but also to hone their reading skills.

    {The publisher provided me with a review copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.}
