biblejunkie3 Stars Out Of 5Could be the best on the market but.....July 6, 2020biblejunkieQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 2First, this bible is a beast! Its very thick and very heavy. My husband joked he could do his arm lifts with it. This will not be one you want to take to church.
There is so much to like about it though. Beautiful colors, the CSB translation (which is quickly becoming my favorite and most used translation), and very well made. It should last for years even with heavy usage. The format is fantastic and I wish more publishers would take note. Single column with cross references on the gutter side of the text and wide margines on the outside of the text for adding your own notes. The font is very easy to read, the paper is very good and very very little ghosting. Its is almost the perfect study bible...Almost....
The study notes are absolutely terrible. I have been using it for several weeks now and every study note is nothing more than a synopsis of the biblical text that was just read. There is no cultural or history context, no theology possiblities, no breakdown, not even comparisions to other verses. They really are honestly not even worth reading. The bible does have some good maps, diagrams, articles, and explainations of cities scattered throughout. But I would not recommend this to anyone hoping to learn something. Its disappointing. So I have quit looking at the notes and use it more as just a reference and reading bible. When I need find a better understanding of something, I pull out another study bible. Thankfully I got it on sale. If I had paid full price for it, I would have returned it. Yes, its that bad.
Jamie MGender: Male5 Stars Out Of 5High Quality Study BibleMarch 17, 2020Jamie MGender: MaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5For $13 the hardcover is a real gem. Smyth-sewn, full-color interior and the pages are made from the highest quality paper I have seen used in a study Bible, with a decent amount of room for taking notes. The names and sheer number of conservative evangelical scholars listed as contributors to the notes, articles and introductions makes this an outstanding resource. It draws on material previously contained in the Baker Illustrated Bible Handbook, the Baker Illustrated Bible Commentary and other Baker titles, many of which are going or have gone out of print. By purchasing this study Bible you are essentially getting the best of these cumulative resources in one large, handy volume that accompanies the Holy Scriptures in the CSB translation. I think it is a worthwhile addition to any library and a study Bible I will enjoy reading and consulting.

Jacob WilsonAge: 25-34Gender: Male5 Stars Out Of 5A Necessary Study BibleMarch 11, 2019Jacob WilsonAge: 25-34Gender: MaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The biggest Bible I own.
The CSB Illustrated Study Bible is a massive tome. It is packed front to back with colorful illustrations, 100 full-color maps, charts, timelines, 150 theological articles, and every page has a running commentary through the entire Bible. There's an impressive concordance, lengthy book introductions, and over 450 defined terms throughout. The typeset is clear and crisp.
The CSB has been gaining a lot of prominence over the last year, and for good reason. The translation is highly readable and lucid while still maintaining much of the original language's nuance and syntax. I'm personally hesitant to fully jump in until a revision has cleared up some of the typos in the text.
However, at $25 for the harcover edition, $40 for leathertouch, this is a study Bible that should be in use at seminary, in the office, at home. This edition doesn't replace the primacy of the ESV Study Bible, yet it's saving grace is that the CSB Illustrated does not try to replicate the ESV Study Bible. The CSB Illustrated Study Bible is original in content, and just as useful in it's own right.
