A sniper shot hits Cole Tox Russell. The enemy is one of his own; a rogue Special Forces team operator and old friend, Alec King. Tox discovers Alec commits several horrific murders that he claims is vengeance against the wrongs committed by his victims. Then he begins targeting innocent people and tries to blackmail Tox into joining him, expressing they are the same type of soldier. Tox must come to terms with what type of soldier he really is, as it is a soldier’s duty to kill with honor in the pursuit of justice, not murder for one’s own vengeance.

Series: Tox Files
Six months after stopping a deadly plague, Cole "Tox" Russell and his team are enjoying a little rest. That peace is short-lived when a sniper shot hits Tox. The enemy is discovered to be one of their own, a rogue Special Forces team operator.
Alec King is perhaps the only person as skilled as Tox, and he's out for justice. Furious with orders that got his men killed, he intends to make those responsible pay. And he insists Tox join him, believing they are the same breed of soldier.
Afraid his old friend is right, Tox battles a growing darkness within himself as he and his team engage in another deadly encounter with antiquity. It appears Alec is cheating--he's using a mysterious artifact, a crown that history has linked to some of the worst slaughters in humanity. Racing to stop Alec before his vengeance is unleashed, Tox must fight the monster without becoming one.

Cole "Tox" Russell and his team of Special Forces soldiers are suddenly drawn towards the front lines of a battle they never expected to fight, when a former teammate turns rogue. Alec King is deliriously fighting a battle of his own; a deliberate, barbaric war of revenge against high level officers who allowed his men to be killed during a high-level military maneuver.
When it becomes apparent that an ancient crown lies at the epicenter of Alec's madness, Cole's Wraith team members immerse themselves in the nuances of ancient history, only to discover more questions than answers. Will Tox be forced to splay open his very heart, sacrifice classified secrets on the altar of justice, risk the love of the one whom he cannot imagine living life without; his anchor in the storm.
Predictably, Ronie Kendig has penned an unimaginable story with the sort of grace, truth, and intensity that has solidified her exceptional reputation.
CozyWriter'sDen5 Stars Out Of 5I wish I could give it more starsJanuary 8, 2018CozyWriter'sDenQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5What a way to kick off 2018! I started the new year reading the sequel to one of my top picks from 2017. I know it's very early on in the 2018 book season, but I may have already read my favourite book of the year: Crown of Souls by Ronie Kendig.
Welcome to another adventure with the ultra-awesome, hard core, kick-butt amazing Tox Russel. Tox and his team of highly specialized operatives are faced with a mission that strikes close to home when one of Tox's old war-time friends becomes mixed up with a dangerous artifact. This artifact, a deadly crown, takes over Alec's mind. Crazed and aided by the supernatural powers of the mysterious crown, Alec becomes rapidly more wicked as he strikes with disturbing precision. Convinced that he's acting in the name of justice, Alec puts out an offer for Tox to join him. Tormented, Tox is faced with a struggle that is not only physical, but internal as well.
Enter Haven: deception expert and plucky girlfriend. She realizes quickly that Tox is identifying with Alec more than he should. As they madly chase Alec around the globe, Haven is hard pressed to keep Tox's head together. Things get trick when Alec sets his sights on her and Tox opens up to her about his past.
This book is filled with big-screen worthy fight scenes, unforgettable characters, and mind bending supernatural elements. These books need to become a movie. The plot is one big twist and I could NOT put this book down. It dug it's hooks into me with the first page, and now that it's over (with a major cliff hanger at the end!) I am dying to read the next one. Write quick, Ronie Kendig! And please.... a twenty or thirty part series would be amazing. :)
I would highly, highly recommend both books in this series. In fact, I insist. You must read it.
Thank-you Graf Martin Communications and Baker Publishing House for a complimentary copy.

The author blends the past (1170 A.D. Syria) with the present to spin a plausible story that connects Cole Tox Russell, Special Forces, with an ancestor, Girade Roussel. Cole fights to reel in a rogue Special Forces operator who has been plaguing Cole and his team and is using the power of a mysterious ancient artifact for his own purposes. Alec King, the rogue, was a trusted team member and friend, and Cole insists upon saving him, if he can. Cole and the team must fight against a powerful force and a friend who has become a monster. Fast-paced action and a riveting plot are the trademark of Ronie Kendig. I highly recommend this book that was gifted to me but was not required to post a favorable review.

Crown of Souls is Book 2 in the Tox Files series. Like Conspiracy of Silence, Book 1, and The Warriors Sealthe novella which preceded themCrown of Souls is part action, part romance, part supernatural fiction.
Tox Russell is a special forces dude now operating way black. Hes very conflicted about a lot of things: his team, his romance, his past, his future. At the same time, hes very dedicated to his team, his missions, his country, and his love. These apparent conflicts make Tox a very real and very interesting character, although, I must admit, the frequent mention of his dark past gets irritating. Hearing the if they knew what Ive done, they wouldnt love/respect/follow me refrain repeated gets old fast.
This time Tox and his team are tasked with finding and bringing in or down a former teammate of Toxs, Alec King. Alec has apparently gone rogue and must be stopped. Crown of Souls also examines the ever deepening relationship of Tox and Haven Linwood. We wonder throughout the book if theyll ever rid themselves of their insecurities and the past. Haven is an analysist assigned to the team, Toxs childhood friend now grown up, and the sister of the woman Tox accidentally killed on a mission.
While Tox and Haven are trying to figure out their relationship, theyre also on a mission to find Alec King and to destroy the artifact thats driving him crazy. Interwoven between the scenes of their search is the story of Thefarie, a Knight Templar who searched for the artifact in the 1100s. There is an element of the supernatural in the character of Ti Tzzaddik, who appears at the most opportune times seemingly out of nowhere.
My description may sound crazy, but Ive grown fond of the characters in this series. The book is long, 470 pages, but I read the novel pretty much straight through. Ronie has another great series goingCrown of Souls wont be the last book with this crew. Four stars.
Ronie Kendig is an award-winning, prolific author who writes military-themed novels. Shes written over a dozen books containing the stories special forces heroes, military working dogs, and now the Tox Files. She and her husband, Brian, are in the process of moving to New York. We can anticipate many more exciting books-especially as Ronie moves more to the supernatural.
Bethany Books gave me a copy of Crown of Souls, but I was in no way obligated to write a review.
