A new book by Michael Catt? Count me in! Fireproof is one of my all-time favorite movies, and I also thoroughly enjoyed Facing the Giants. Thus, it was with great anticipation that I awaited delivery of Courageous Teens.

Well, I walk away from this book with two diametrically opposed opinions. On the one hand, Courageous Teens might be a fabulous book for teens who are really seeking motivation to go deeper with their faith life. Teens who are ready to make courageous changes to follow Christ might wholeheartedly embrace this book. They are likely to find its message energizing, and I wouldn't doubt if this book changes quite a few hearts and lives. Teens who value Bible knowledge will enjoy the parallels drawn between the lives of Biblical characters and their own lives, drawing strength from their examples.

While a teen who is actively seeking the message of this book will not be disappointed, I would shy away from recommending this for the general Christian teen population. Anyone not already seeking to "go courageous" is likely to find this book a little tedious. Even when a very motivating point is made, it can almost be talked to death in some instances, thereby losing its impact. To be honest, I actually found this book difficult to finish; how much more-so for teens in the generation of fast-paced media and information exchange?! If the message goes long for their interests, they're on to something else, and Courageous Teens is forgotten.

A warning to Catholic families: a hero of the Reformation is discussed (pg 59), showing the Catholic church in a very negative light. Certainly all Catholics, at some point in their faith walk, will face these uncomfortable moments in church history; this warning is simply to alert Catholic parents to be ready to work through these questions with their teen who's reading this book.

I received this book free for the purpose of providing my honest review. I was not required to give a positive review.

Once again I turned to my daughter Peanut to read and review a book for me. It is a book spin of the movie Courageous but as the title indicates it's especially for teens. By the sounds of Peanut's review she was pretty impressed. So read on...

I loved Courageous Teens. It really convicted me not to want to be happy being an average Christian or a second best Christian. It motivated me to want to be the best Christian I can be. It was really encouraging.

I liked the fact that the book had questions at the end of each chapter. The questions challenged me to want to try to be a better Christian or better person and to trust God more.

I will definitely read this book over and over again. It was an awesome book.

    Two thumbs up for me!

Theresa here, I think this sounds like a great gift idea for a teen in your life who needs enouragement in their faith walk.

Courageous Teens helps Teens build a wonderful foundation for building and keeping a courageous life. Teen-hood is hard enough with out all the outside influences but we all know teens have outside influences around them 24/7. They can never just step away from school and pressures around them like pre-internet life allowed.

Courageous Teens is a book that allows itself to be a individual bible study or a small group bible study. Each section is 2 or 3 chapters, ending with Think Courageously questions to ponder. Then at the end of each section you have a recap that ask some great questions and allows for practical application.

Do you have teens now, preteens that will be teens soon, then grab a copy of this book. I really thing it would be great to do as a family maybe make the communication lines open a little more. Not sure that is what your teen would want. Why not give it to them and they can do it by themselves or with a group of friends.

Lets help our teens lead and live a courageous life.

thank you Handlebar for allowing us to review this great Teen bible study book.

This review was written for Courageous Teens - eBook.
The opening statements in Courageous Teens were brilliant. I grabbed my iPad (ebook version) and settled in for an encouraging read. But I have to say, I was a little disappointed. Though all the stories told in this book are great - I found it to be a little long winded. I began to wonder how many teens would actually take the time to read this book. I write YA fiction, I read a lot of YA fiction - I know teenagers' attention can be lost in a second. This applies to both fiction and nonfiction. I do hope many teens find this book and stick with it to learn the invaluable lessons within and close the book inspired.
