PinkishHueTopeka, KSAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5This is a good book!April 22, 2011PinkishHueTopeka, KSAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 4Couples who Pray by Squire Rushnell and Louise DuArt is easy to read and shows through data and couples' experiences how prayer as a couple is important to the happiness and fulfillment of a marriage. It briefly explains some ground rules (or suggestions) of praying together then goes into the different aspects of marriage and shows how praying together can affect them. Some of the areas include: communication, sex and intimacy, and money. Many couples who have gone through this 40 day Prayer Challenge are interviewed in this book, including Denzel and Pauletta Washington, Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford, and Scott and Tracie Hamilton. Each couple talks about how they and their marriage have been affected by the simple act of praying at least five minutes each day together and how it has brought them closer together. The book also talks about six steps to a happy marriage.
I found this book easy and enjoyable to read. I wish that the section on how to pray together was a little longer and provided more examples. It seemed to have a lot of people's testimonies in it which was good and showed why praying together is important and valuable. I just wanted a little more information. The chapter on steps to a happy marriage was helpful but a little generic. Overall, I liked this book and would recommend it to a friend or relative. It would make a good wedding gift!

katie4 Stars Out Of 5Couples Who PrayApril 11, 2011katieQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This book was intended to encourage couples to pray together. It offered some advice on praying together for 40 days, but also gave examples from a couple of dozen of couples who had found prayer helpful in their relationships.
This book would be perfect for couples that are just starting to pray together or are trying to figure out where to begin. The stories included were encouraging and offered helpful examples for couples that are starting to pray together.
I thought this book was encouraging. My husband and I already pray together, but it was nice to hear stories of others and how much it had edified their relationships!

BethAzusa, CAAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Resource For CouplesMarch 25, 2011BethAzusa, CAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Couples Who Pray: The Most Intimate Act Between a Man and a Woman by Squire Rushnell and Louise DuArt is a resource book. The authors have collected research and testimonials and challenge couples to pray together for 40 days. They also use both technology and scripture for resources as couples begin and continue with the challenge.
I was afraid that it was simply a religious book because the testimonial merely spoke of "God". However, once the challenge was given, the authors provide encouragement for those interested in participating in the challenge. There is practical guidance for the novice as well as those who have practiced praying together as a couple for years. For example, there is a before and after survey for the couples to take individually, so a couple is able to compare the change within the relationship. It could be used for couples in marriage counseling, premarital counseling; it could be used by a church or by a lone couple. Both pastors and counselors could find the resources helpful as they work with couples.
LyndsayAge: 25-34Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5March 24, 2011LyndsayAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1When I saw this title I instantly called my husband and told him all about it. We both were looking for ways to deepen our prayer life together and were really excited about the book. I have to be honest I didn't read much about it before we got it because I wanted to check it out firsthand. Sadly though I have to say we could not get into this book. All the people used to interview for this book are all people outside of my age group, a celebrity, or a professional that we are not.
While some of the techniques and such are practical for anyone I found it very difficult to relate to. In turn it made it a very hard book to even want to read it. I'll be honest again I even left the book for weeks thinking if I came back with a different frame of mind it would be easier to read. This was not the case. While I know everyone's lives are different not one person was relatable for me... for us. We have not finished reading this book and truthfully I am not sure we will try.
Sadly it was not what I expected.
