Hank Hanegraaff documents the danger of looking for God in all the wrong places and goes behind the scenes into the wildly popular and bizarre world of contemporary revivalism. Hanegraaff masterfully exposes the stark contrast between these deeds of the flesh and a genuine work of the Spirit by contrasting modern "revivals" with the scriptural examples of God's movement among His people.
Hank Hanegraaff serves as president and chairman of the board of the North Carolinabased Christian Research Institute. He is also host of a nationally syndicated radio broadcast, which is heard daily across the United States and Canadaand around the world via the Internet at equip.org. Hank is the author of more than twenty books.
Widely regarded as one of the worlds leading Christian authors and apologists, Hank is deeply committed to equipping Christians to be so familiar with truth that when counterfeits loom on the horizon, they recognize them instantaneously. Through his live call-in broadcast, Hank answers questions on the basis of careful research and sound reasoning, and interviews todays most significant leaders and thinkers.
Hank and his wife, Kathy, live in Charlotte, North Carolina, and are parents to twelve children.
Jesse Marsh4 Stars Out Of 5May 15, 2007Jesse MarshI must say, Hank certainly did his research for this book, and it was an enjoyable read. He seems to make no room for counterfeit revivalists who may have started off in God's grace and fallen away, though. To him, these strange manifestations of the "Spirit" are simply man made, instead of God-inspired movements taken out of hand by the hand of man. Personally, the jury is still out for me on this topic, but this is still an excellent, well documented book that is worth taking a look at for arguments sake.
Grant Spong5 Stars Out Of 5June 12, 2006Grant SpongWhile not perfect, Hank's accounting of the serious problems associated with the back-yard theology and half-baked pop-preaching of many televangelists is a dire warning for all Christians. He backs up the old addage that bad preachers often make a big show and yell a lot to cover up their lack of content, or in this case, dangerous and deceptive content. The book documents the non-Christian origins of many schemes used by those who are deceived and deceiving.Hank's book serves to remind all of us of the dangers of biblically and theologically ignorant preachers who do not know how to rightly divide the word of truth and yet like screaming circus side-show hawkers make merchandise of the church by selling spiritual junk food and preaching empty-headed fluff to naive and unsuspecting believers. In an age when many churches no longer teach believers the essentials of basic Christianity, believers become easy prey for counterfeits. A book like this one serves as a warning sign to all Christ-centered preachers to inocculate their flocks against these heresies and winds of doctrine by teaching Christians to discern what are and what are not the trunk-of-the-tree Christian essentials.
Matt5 Stars Out Of 5November 20, 2005MattIf you have read the book but not heard the tapes I highly recommend it. Hearing the actual sounds of the (holy laughter) and the animal sounds is creepier than any horror movie. Hank did a great job of delivering the quotes of these false prophets, to actually hear these guys say these bizarre (revelations) makes you wonder why they have followers. For Hank to actually be in the congregation and be called on is braver than i'll ever be. Good job Hank.
Richard Greene5 Stars Out Of 5June 23, 2003Richard GreeneSheer Frightening!!! Hanegraaff does a superb job in exposing the false doctrines of the esoteric movements including:Altered states of conscienceness and the soaking prayer deception. This is a must read for those saved by grace through faith. Period. Others looking for "New" supernatural outpouring of the spirit will certainly find it. But is it really of God? Read this book and see for yourself.
Michael Ruangnol5 Stars Out Of 5June 3, 2003Michael RuangnolThis is a book in which the body of christ REALLY needs to read because their is a big shift today in christianity. People by the dozens scream out for revival and to have a deeper relationship with the Lord but end up with a conterfeit Jesus, a waterdown Gospel and if you have a conterfeit Jesus you have a CONTERFEIT salvation. This book exposes the false Prophets, and Apostles of today. Exposes on how some of these things are very dangerous to practice like slain in the spirit, Un-Holy laughter and the barking like animals. Folks lets get back to the Word of God. Hank does a great job.
