Counterfeit Comforts by Robia Scott was a very encouraging read. Robia Scott writes in a way that feels as if she is sitting right beside you! This book is very encouraging and easy to read.

Robia Scott addresses the different things that we turn to for our comfort. We all have our vices that we hope will fill our void when were going through tough times. She shows us how to turn from these comforts and turn to God instead. She shows a step-by-step process to overcome this.

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone! This is a book that I will keep on my shelves and refer back to often.

I received this book from Chosen for my honest opinion.

Every reader is sure to see himself in this book. Counterfeit Comforts is a good descriptive term for those self-indulgences we engage in to hide from our feelings. Eating disorders, alcohol and drug abuse, shopping, sex, damaging relationships and self-mutilation are just a few of the distractive behaviors which we take on to avoid facing our feelings, repenting and turning our lives around.

Robia Scott shows us how these behaviors are only bandages or at best, a duct tape fix to cover up the real problems that lie below. The good news is that we can change and God is our hope. If we are willing to try and that may mean multiple tries, God can work with our imperfect selves, showing us the way to true freedom from both burdens and behaviors. He will instruct us and supply courage and we can count on His ever present support and leadership; forgiveness, too, for when our efforts fall short or we relapse.

I received a free copy of Counterfeit Comforts from the publisher. No review, positive or otherwise, was required. All opinions are my own. I am pleased to recommend it to adult and teenage readers.

I dont read a lot of non-fiction because its not something I find as enjoyable as fiction but this book really appealed to me. The idea of finding comfort in the wrong places is something Ive personally struggled with for as long as I can remember. As a Christian, I am called to look to God as my source of comfort but there are so many times that I avoid His open arms. Theres so much out there in the world to distract us and bring that temporary comfort that its easy to go for the quick rush instead of seeking the never ending rich fulfillment that is only found in God.

This book covers many important areas for Christians and with each point the author uses scripture to back what shes saying. I found this book to be extremely helpful and relateable and is one that I will revisit in the future. The writing style was very easy and it was very quick to get through.

My favorite chapter is about pitfalls and how the enemy uses them to keep us from God.

Overall, I thought this book was great, it was extremely relevant and definitely worth a read!

    My Rating: 5 stars

I received this book from Baker Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review.

    SUMMARY:

Speaker, teacher and author, Robia Scott, explains the temporary comforts found in overcoming hardships. Teaching instead the freedom found through turning to the Holy Spirit, she shares the destructive behavior that can result from following the counterfeit comforts. With encouragement, compassion, sensitivity and understanding, Counterfeit Comforts offers personal stories, relevant scriptures, strong reminders, gentle patience and heartfelt support in transferring dependence from shallow comforts to the healing and freedom found from leaning on God.

    A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:

Though perhaps not exactly what I was expecting when I opened the cover of this book, I soon found myself nodding my head at some of the ideas found within. Through her own personal journey to healing and freedom with the Holy Spirit, Robia Scott is willing to be honest, straight-forward, and passionate for a successful change. With a section on changing your words, thoughts and actions from negative to positive, she leaves nary an excuse not to turn to God in difficulties (rather than ice cream). Possibly life changing for some.

What an excellent book to help with your emotions dealing with anxiety, depression, overeating, stress, bad habits and so much more of your daily feelings that make you think you will feel better about yourself. Robia does a wonderful job of telling her story and explaining to us that it doesn't have to be this way. She will teach you how to pray the way GOD wants us to pray, how to know when GOD is behind your choice and it not being just your choice. This book has so many great points and suggestions, bible verses and GOD all over it.

I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to have a new view on life and how you deal with everyday. This will teach you a whole side of what you have been thinking to knowing that it is ok have sad feeling, but it is not ok to leave GOD out of your day. I really enjoyed this book as it was a new and refreshing way to help with depression, anxiety and any type of feelings that you need to change.
