Publisher's Description

Research and common sense indicate that engaged couples will eventually have stronger, more successful marriages if they get good premarital counseling. Many churches now require such counseling, yet many Christian couples still enter marriage without that preparation. Countdown for Couples will fill that void. It will help couples learn about each other, and themselves individually, as well as their relational skills and compatibility as a couple.

My husband and I have counseled premarital couples for several years now and have found this book to be very helpful for the young couples we meet with. It does a great job covering a variety of topics. It also brings up topics that the couple may have never thought about before, topics that for sure would arise in marriage. The questions are very thought provoking and get to the heart of the issue. The chapters are not to long, so the homework is not overwhelming. I highly suggest starting this book before engagement, pre-engagement counseling. Many issues can arise and it is hard to call off a wedding after already engaged. We ask the couples to read the chapter, answer the questions on their own and then compare their questions together. We then meet with them and go over what stood out to them in the chapter and then reviewed their questions with them.

This book has been so helpful for us, as we are struggling with wedding planning and, quite frankly, the temptations that follow engagement. It seems overwhelming when you think "wow, I really am about to spend the rest of my life with this person." This book, seeming almost like a couples' devotional, has really opened up our eyes as far those hard questions are concerned. The temptation is to think that once you're married your lives will be 100% better but this book definitely brings in the reality that marriage takes work and that it is a really serious matter. I am really looking forward to finishing out this study with my fiance as we plan our wedding. I suggest this especially if you're looking for a God-centered view on the realities of married life.

This is a good book to go through in premarital counseling or on your own. It helps to look past the wedding itself and into the life after the wedding.

Having two unmarried 20-something children, this jumped out to us as must-reads for them both. Previewing the book, we found many helps and good insights we could implement in our 34-year old marriage! We highly recommend it for the practical advice and Christian principles it affords those considering marriage.
