Tell us a little about yourself. I have been happily married to Karen for over 22 years. Together we enjoy raising our nine children to love Jesus by walking according to His Word. I have been the pastor of Immanuel Bible Church in Sheboygan, Wisconsin since 1992 and am also a biblical counselor certified with NANC and IABC.
What was your motivation behind this project? My desire is for God's people to be properly fed the life-giving Word of God. This will only take place when more and more pastors become convinced of their calling to faithfully and passionately teach the Word of God.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope that God's people, especially pastors, elders, and deacons, will see how indispensable both expository preaching and biblical counseling are to the spiritual well-being of Gods people in the local church.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? My conviction concerning the absolute necessity of pastors equipping their flocks to disciple one another was strengthened. I am more and more convinced that what churches really need are strong pastors who will faithfully preach and teach the Word of God so that Gods people are adequately fed and grow in Christ.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Jerry Bridges, John MacArthur, Steve Lawson, Jay Adams, Wayne Mack, the Puritans, C.J. Mahaney, John Piper, D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, David Powlison, C.H. Spurgeon, David Wells, A.W. Tozer, and others.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: ENDORSEMENTS: This book gets it right! Comprehensive and convincing. Those who preach, teach, or counsel regularly are sure to benefit greatly from this helpful resource. John MacArthur, Pastor-Teacher, Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, CA Paul Tautges brings the biblical command for discipleship right back to the local church and to all believers. He takes the word counseling, a word often perceived as only for professionals and helps to reduce that fear and encourages them to fulfill their responsibility by uniquely redefining it biblically as intensely focused and personal discipleship. Dr. Ron Allchin, Biblical Counseling Center near Chicago Paul Tautges book is readable, accessible, practical and biblical. Loaded with information and application this is an excellent workbook for all Christians. Dr. Jim Winter, UK Pastor and Counselor This is not a trendy book like so many, blown about by the prevailing evangelical winds. Rather, here is an anchor for authentic ministry that will stimulate real spiritual growth in Gods people. May the Lord set an open door before this book and use it to affect the lives of many. Dr. Steven J. Lawson, Senior Pastor, Christ Fellowship Baptist Church, Mobile, AL Like their pastors, most Christians have adopted a professionalized or psychologized view of counseling that naturally excludes uneducated laity. This is why I believe this book, Counsel one another, addresses a serious deficiency in the discipleship ministry of Christians within the church. It advocates a radical departure from the status quo and a return to an authentic personal ministry of the Word among Christians through discipleship-counseling. It effectively lays the theological foundation for Christians regaining the New Testament priority of addressing personal soul troubles with biblical counsel. Dr. John D. Street, Graduate Program in Biblical Counseling, The Masters College and Seminary, Santa Clarita, CA
