This four-color, Gold Medallion Book Award winner is a perfect tool that offers solid, biblical answers to some of the tough questions kids ask about evolution and our world.
"Did Earth begin with a Big Bang cosmic explosion?"
"Does science contradict the Bible?"
"What happened to dinosaurs?"
"Is there life on other planets?"
"Did we evolve from apes?"
"What makes my body work on its own?"
Kids are daily exposed to the theory of evolution by the media and public schools. Its not safe to assume that your kids will reject that theory. Its up to us as parents and Christian leaders to make sure our children know the truth about the creation of the world. With thousands of evidences to prove He created and sustains the universe, It Couldnt Just Happen will fascinate kids with fun activities and examples of Gods marvelous works.
Although the book covers many specific terms, scientific ideas, and historical figures and events, all are presented in a way that makes sense to lay readers. As someone who has read many complicated chapters from science books in school, I found this book better able to explain the ideas of both evolution and creationism. The more personal tone (instead of a bland scientific lecture style) was a factor in readability and understanding the concepts.
Each chapter ends with a "Just for Fun" section that lets the reader exercise the concepts that were discussed in the chapter. It helps wrap up ideas and helps the reader really commit facts and concepts to memory. Laura Vela, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
MarieOklahoma City, OKAge: 45-54Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Slightly edited rewrite of a 1989 edition promoting an ancient creation over evolutionFebruary 20, 2016MarieOklahoma City, OKAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 1This beautiful reprinting has nearly identical wording to the 1989 edition, with more photos and white space added. The only major text additions I saw were a page on intelligent design and a paragraph on a 2010 fossil discovery. The target age is probably young teens. Although the main focus is showing the weaknesses of evolution, it also discusses biology and historical geology, the environment, a defense of the Bible, and even a little health! The author supports a creation of Adam from the dust a few thousand years ago, and the creation of kinds of animals some time before. An ancient earth is favored, with several ideas listed to fit many years into Genesis one.
No theological or scientific reasons are given to believe in a young creation, although it is presented as an option. Theological reasons such as Jesuss words in Mark 10:6, Mark 13:19-20, and Luke 11:50-51, or the problem of painful disease and death before Gods pronouncement of very good. Scientific reasons such as coal and oil that radiocarbon dates less than 60,000 radiocarbon years. (Current equipment is able to date to almost 100 thousand radiocarbon years, not the 15 thousand given in the book.) Only one sentence suggested fossils are perhaps from Noahs flood. (Fossils on mountaintops are given as support for continental drift over millions of years only.) No writing of the worldwide flood evidence of animals buried in thin, continental wide rock layers, sometimes in positions showing death by drowning. One colorful book mentioning these scientific issues and many others is Guide to Creation (newer title: Guide to Creation Basics) by the Institute of Creation Research which Christian Books is also selling-at least until this old title sells out.
The 1989 writing about biology and the difficulty of life by chance is still impressive. The apologetics about the Bible on archaeology and fulfilled prophecy are fairly typical. Only a few older books (evolutionist or creationist) are given as references or for further research. If youre looking for newer old earth apologetic books for kids you might try Lee Strobels books.
Teri5 Stars Out Of 5Great Science BookOctober 2, 2014TeriQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My daughter has been using this in Classical Conversations this year. It's written in an understanding way to look at Creation from God's perspective while also discussing evolutionary ideas appropriately. Nicely written and creates good discussion. It acknowledges the need for humility because after all, we don't have all the pieces of the puzzle when it comes to science because no human being was there from the beginning.

Each lesson is based on a Bible passage concerning a topic for growth. The chapters are not long and can easily be added to if desired - or used as discussion starters.

It is recommended for ages 7-12, but I enjoyed it as an adult and found it very useful to teach others about creation science. It provides many specific details about the wonders of creation that just aren't easily found and put together in such a logical and easy to understand manner anywhere else. I cannot emphasize how highly I recommend this book!

Ask a Question▼▲
Q: This teaches YOUNG earth (around 6k years), right? NOT the GAP theory, which would insert millions of years, as though God would use that when Hebrew/Greek and Science clearly refute that. I want this clear before I invest in this for my kids.
Dr. Richards does not specifically support any particular viewpoint on the age of the earth, based on the fact that it is not revealed in scripture. Although he puts forth the 24 hour literal creation day, he also presents the gap, day-age and revelatory day theories as views that Christians can hold to. However, he does make it clear that, based on the scriptures, the theory of evolution cannot be a legitimate Christian view.
