Cottage Press' Primer One: Spring student book is designed to be used alongside the (not-included) Primer One Teaching Helps Book (which is required to use this curriculum). This student book covers 12 weeks; it is preceded by Primer 1: Autumn and Primer 1: Winter (both sold-separately) to cover a full year.
Worksheets are organized by week, and clearly laid out; each worksheet is labeled with the week and day for simple lesson-planning. There's room to complete copywork, nature study illustrations, short phonics exercises, and more. Nature Study lessons in this book cover flowers, weather, and insects.
Cottage Press is a classical liberal arts curriculum that immerses students in the great books and great ideas of Western Civilization.
The full Cottage Press Primer 1 course is comprised of the Primer 1 Teaching Helps book, plus the Autumn Primer 1, Winter Primer 1, and Spring Primer 1 (all components sold-separately). Using a gentle Charlotte Mason style approach, weekly copybook and narration selections from classic children's literature, poetry, and Scripture (along with nature and art study lessons) help hone students' powers of observation, description, and attention to detail. This primer series will help prepare early elementary students in preparation for more rigorous grammar and composition instruction in late elementary, middle and high school.
The Autumn, Winter, and Spring Primers are sequential in skills; familiarity with concepts from the preceding book is assumed. Before beginning Primer One, a student should have achieved beginning spelling and phonics proficiency, be ready for beginning chapter books, and be able to copy words and sentences. Primer One is generally appropriate for 2nd-3rd grade students but could be used effectively by older students as well.
Softcover. NKJV Scripture used. Grades 2-3. Consumable and non-reproducible.
Please note that this program will still require another systematic phonics or spelling program.
