In the Dark by Lynette Eason

Steph Cross discovers cryptic notes in the wake of her friend's untimely death, leading her to think that there was more to her death than originally stated. Rookie Detective Tate Cooper is determined to prove himself on his first case, working alongside his partner and boss's sister.

An engaging read with likable protagonists and a riveting plot, I liked the relationship building as they uncovered the secrets together. Good tension throughout, with solid themes of faith.

    Downfall by Lynn H. Blackburn

A feuding family in a resort town. Cassie Quinn is a chef, and she takes a job at the resort despite her family's reservations about the bad blood between the families. When the resort's kitchen is destroyed it is clear that someone is after her. Her only option is to work with her ex, Dt Donovan Bledsoe. Can they get to the bottom of the targeted sabotage before it's too late?

A fast paced read, with escalating suspense as the danger increases. Great suspense, with a second chance romance, good teamwork and relationship building. Highly enjoyable!

    Perilous Obsession by Natalie Walters

Teacher Lehela Young turns to her friend Briggs Turner when she finds that she is being stalked, endangering her students. Can they get to the bottom of things before it's too late?

A well written read, with a sweet friend to lovers romance. A suspenseful read, with a plot that kept me guessing till the end. I liked the great relationship between the main characters, and solid faith. Highly recommend!

If you are a fan of suspense, then you are probably already familiar with Lynette Eason, Lynn H. Blackburn, and Natalie Walters. If you are not yet familiar, then buckle up, Buttercup and you are welcome for the introduction. Cornered is a novella collection from these three suspense queens, a blessed gift for the suspense lover in your life. (And it is totally ok to be the suspense lover in your life.)

The first novella in this collection is In the Dark by Lynette Eason, in which Stephanie Cross finds herself up to her ears in deception and danger when her friend is murdered. Detective Tate Cooper is on the case, but it is not long before Stephanie is on his mind in her own way. Eason*s world building is already well established, and her readers will recognize quite a few In the Dark characters, feeling at home immediately with our friends and feeling the danger with them along the way. Fear not, new and future fans, because you will pick right up and fit right in with the Lake City Heroes.

Lynn H. Blackburn follows with Downfall to have you head over tail feathers for the Quinns and some of the Pierces of Gossamer Falls. When Cassie Quinn and Bronwyn Pierce discover that Hideaway has been vandalized, the illusion of security at the ultra exclusive The Haven resort in North Carolina*s beautiful mountains is shattered. Not so much for their elite guests, but for the swanky restaurant*s interim head chef, Cassie. Cassie*s ex, Officer Donovan Bledsoe has to solve the case, protect Cassie, and make sense of the mess he made when he dumped her. Sinister acts, drugs, danger, and romantic tension keep the reader on their toes from threats written in sriracha to a satisfying conclusion. Cannot get enough of the Quinns and Pierces? No worries, Blackburn has you covered with the Gossamer Falls series.

Perilous Obsession from Natalie Walters completes the triptych of pulse pounding romantic suspense. Natalie fans will be familiar with Kekoa Young from The SNAP Agency series and will immediately feel like family for his sister Lahela, who finds herself the target of some disturbing incidents as she strives to feel settled in her new Texas home. Briggs Turner is a friend, but he hopes to be more. His protective drive is amped up when he learns that someone has been stalking Lahela, but it all gets really hot when things cross over from tense to dangerous. Perilous Obsession is fast and tense, but with the friendship, loyalty, and dedication of ohana and a healthy helping of romance.

Wow! I don't always love a bunch of short stories, but these were all very good! Definitely suspenseful!! I had already read books in 2 of the series that go with these stories, and now I will have to read the other series that I haven't read yet! So exciting to have found another series to read!!! You'll love the characters in these stories, as well as the suspense. Read this book, and you'll find some great new authors, if you haven't read these ladies' books yet! And if you have read these authors, enjoy the new stories!

Thank you to the authors, publisher, and NetGalley for the advance e-copy of this book! All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

I loved that all three of these novellas build on other series by their respective authors. They each had familiar characters, great mysteries, lots of suspense, and I'd highly recommend them.

I think it's fascinating reading about a family feud set in the modern era. In "Downfall," Cassie wonders, "When had she turned into the stupid chick in a horror movie who didn't have enough sense to stay alive?" (location 2299). I like the Quinn family dynamics and how they show up for each other, even if it brings them into contact with their enemies. I can't wait to read Mo's story.

In "Perilous Obsession," Briggs is ready to move out of the friend zone with Lahela when he learns she has a stalker. His passion immediately turns to keeping her safe. "I'm just ticked off and worried and, well...I really want to punch someone, but I'm trying to focus that urge onto something more productive and less illegal" (location 4266).

All three books have close family or friend groups who support each other. There were a few twists and turns. They were all very enjoyable and hard to put down. I'd highly recommend them. Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
