There are many great recipes within this book. I love all the extra little tips. This tells a bit about Wanda E. Brunstetter cooking class series that are wonderful also. I look forward to making many of these recipes. I received this from Barbour Publishing for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

I love cookbooks and this one is a keeper. It accompanies the Amish Cooking Class trilogy by Wanda Brunstetter. The pictures are very nice and the insights on Amish living are quaint. The recipes are interesting and look like they can actually be prepared by anyone. I was a little confused at first look. I didn't read any descriptions or reviews beforehand. This book is almost like fiction. Some of the recipes list actual people that contributed. Then there are recipes that were submitted by fictional people from the book series with little made-up notes about the contributor. Then there were recipes that had no contributor listed, so I guess the author submitted them? I concluded that this is a compilation of possible recipes that could have been collected by the fictional Heidi Troyer and her fictional cooking class participants. So, the recipes are not necessarily all Amish recipes. Regardless, it has a wide variety of delicious recipes. A bonus is the spiral binding because it lays flat on the counter.

Absolutely love this cookbook. And what a neat idea. This is the cookbook for every day people like me. As a working mother I don't have time for complex recipes. This book has over 200 recipes in 10 categories including: beverages, bread, breakfast, dessert, main doses, spread and pickles, soup, salads and sides, snacks and dips and even recipes for children. Recipes are easy to follow with ingredients clearly listed. So all of this makes it an excellent cookbook.

What takes this cookbook to the next level is the additional features. First of all, I love how it includes a verse at the beginning of each chapter much like Heidi put verses on the back of her recipes. Secondly, the cookbook includes basic tips for cooking which are those little secrets that take an average cook to a great cook and makes the cooks job more efficient. Included in this section are tips for making potatoes easier to peel, how to have egg shells practically fall off, how to get your cookies fluffy and so much more. Also this cookbook has articles on understanding the Amish as well as descriptions of the characters from the 3 books.

So you get a rare find in this cookbook, tips from experienced cooks and a multitude of easy to follow recipes. As I browsed this cookbook I felt like I had walked into one of Heidi's cooking class.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
