Mikaela4 Stars Out Of 5A.D. The Book of ActsMay 26, 2015MikaelaQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4To be honest, when I selected this book for review, I was not entirely sure what the book was. I thought it could be a novelization of the tv show, or possibly something to be read along with the show. However, I was wrong! This book is actually the New Living Translation of the book of Acts with added notes from Dr. David Jeremiah. It is the story of Jesus' followers and how the church began. It describes their hardships and their successes, their persecution and their sacrifice.
A.D. The Bible Continues: The Book of Acts was an easy read and quite understandable. Though I do not normally use the New Living Translation when reading my Bible, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it in this book. It provided an easy flow and different insights to the book of Acts.
The tv show has given millions the chance to see the book of Acts played out. Now, this book is giving us yet another view point. I would definitely recommend this book even if you have already read through Acts or if the New Living Translation is not your preferred translation. The notes from Dr. David Jeremiah give insights to the key characters in Acts, and the translation makes the book easy to read.
This book is for those who have been Christians a long time and desire to study the Bible, and for those who are brand new Christians and are eager to learn more about their faith.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes from Tyndale House.

The Bible Continues: The Book of Acts takes the reader through a fresh look at the book of Acts, with greater detail and understanding. It starts out with an introduction to the apostles, the events at that time, and the book of Acts. The introduction is then followed by the Prologue, which talks about the crucifixion of Jesus and His resurrection. The Prologue also includes a character profile of Mary Magdalene and an in depth look at the crucifixion. After the prologue there is an easy-to-understand version of the book of Acts, with character profiles of Luke, Stephen, Paul, Herod Agrippa I, Barnabas, Timothy, Priscilla and Aquila, Herod Agrippa II, and others. The book of Acts is closely followed by the epilogue, with a history of the church and a look at the second coming of Jesus. Then there is a call to action, describing what we are to do. Also within this book are photos from the TV series, favorite verses, and maps.
I discovered some facts while reading A.D. The Bible Continues: The Book of Acts, which I was not aware of before my reading. It was also interesting to see the book of Acts written from a different point of view in summary form. It makes me want to read the book of Acts all over again. I also enjoyed the favorite verses, towards the end of the book.
I highly recommend A.D. The Bible Continues: The Book of Acts

A man was crucified for all the wrong reasons.
But where would we be without the cross? Taking the crucifixion as a starting point, Dr. David Jeremiah provides a keepsake commentary on the 2-Volume history of the Christian Church, as compiled by Dr. Luke, a follower of Jesus Christ and frequent companion of the Apostle Paul.
Dr. Luke was not an eyewitness to the events of Jesus life, as far as we know. He used his intelligence and credentials as a physician to gather, sift through, and organize the vast amounts of material that was already being circulated amongst the early church by the followers of Jesus to compile his work. His education and training eminently prepared him for this monumental task. Seriously . . . how DOES one pick and choose the most appropriate, the most important, the most crucial remembrances of the Greatest Life that was ever lived, to preserve for posterity?
Dr. David Jeremiah has always been one of my favorite authors, because of his gracious demeanor coupled with a refreshing refusal to compromise. He speaks the truth in love . . . but by all means, he speaks the truth. This slender volume (its only 177, 7.5 X 4.25 inch pages) contains one of the most comprehensive and cohesive outlines of the book of Acts that Ive come across. Dr. Jeremiahs scholarship, coupled with his story-telling ability, make reading this volume a welcome experience. And the reader is going to learn, without even realizing it!
The advantages already expounded, by themselves, would make this a welcome addition to ones library at any cost. Add to this twenty articles by Dr. Jeremiah, highlighting the key players and themes in the Book of Acts, stunning full-color photographs from the exotic locations where A.D. The Bible Continues was filmed, and spectacular moments created by Emmy Award-winning executive producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, and you have a volume that cannot be measured in terms of monetary consideration.
One criticism that I might offer would be the typeset. The font is rather small, and the brown type set against the cream-colored pages does not provide enough contrast for my taste. However, Im not going to take points off for that one technical aspect of this otherwise excellent work by Dr. David Jeremiah and Tyndale Publishers.
5 stars for one of the best one-volume commentaries on the Book of Acts Ive come across!
