Publisher's Description

Settlers fear the Shawnee Indians at Chillicothe. Joshua is about to learn why. For Joshua Stewart and his family, the Kentucky frontier is their promised land. It's a fresh start away from the difficulties of Virginia. It's an opportunity to own as much land as they care to claim. It's a chance of a lifetime, a dream come true. The only problem is getting there. Will the Stewarts overcome the hardships that await them in the mountains of Pennsylvania? Will they survive the dangers of the Ohio River? And when the Shawnee Indians attack, will Joshua's faith in the Lord be enough to save him?

Author/Artist Review

Author: Karen Meyer

Tell us a little about yourself.  My interest in Ohio history was sparked in grade school. I've traveled around, but settled back in Ohio to raise a family. I visit schools to talk about pioneer living from a first=person view, one of my book's characters.

What was your motivation behind this project?  To get young readers interested in our nation's history. To show that faith was a key element in the settlement of the Ohio frontier.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Knowledge of the pioneer history and figures of Ohio's early years.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I read the chapters aloud to 5th and 6th graders and learned their interests firsthand.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Bible Allan Eckert

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  Don't give up. This book took 10 years, from start, to sitting in a drawer, to finish.
