Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I am a former resident of a housing project in Chicago who was able to use education to escape poverty. I'm a Bible teacher, an adult education, and creative. I'm on a journey to set the artist inside of me free. In some ways, my book is part of my artistic journey as it took a lot of courage to share intimate details about my journey.

What was your motivation behind this project?  During the pandemic, I was challenged by the question of whether there was anything that I had not yet done that I believed God wanted me to do. I knew that I had not yet written the book that I needed to write. I immediately went to work.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  More than anything else, I want people to know that God makes good on His promise of satisfying the human soul. I want people who are struggling with destructive behaviors to find hope and encouragement. I want others to know that addictive behaviors have roots, so they can be better equipped to help people with destructive behaviors.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  I was surprised to see myself pull together my compilation of poems and journal entries and tell my story of deliverance. I was reminded of how long-suffering that God has been with me and how much progress I have made on my Christian journey.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  My book is a great resource for Singles ministries, Recovery & addictions groups, Men/Women's groups, purity classes, etc. Readers will enjoy my creativity and how I weave my poems with narrative theology and journal entries to tell my story.
