The author's approach in this easy to read book (it's 200 pages, but they are short pages) is to slowly make the case for rejecting the virgin birth of Jesus in favor of a natural birth. Frankly, it would make for a good opening argument in a Christian debate on such a topic; however, this book is totally one-sided, and the author doesn't show any awareness that it may actually be possible to, with intellectual integrity, affirm the immaculate conception of Jesus. Worst of all, the author claims that the resulting incarnation theology he proposes is actually more in step with the gospel than that found in Matthew and Luke(!). For the author, Jesus without two genetic parents makes him something other than fully human (his objections are theological and scientific). Apparently, Matthew and Luke (at the very least) didn't think so; but like I said, this book is written as a primer, so don't expect a substantive rebuttal of the traditional view on the Christmas story.
