Dr. William Sears, an acclaimed pediatrician, and his wife, Martha Sears, a registered nurse and child-birth educator, team up to bring Christian parents a medically-authoritative, total child care resource written from a Christian perspective. Combining their medical expertise with personal parenting experience and insights and scriptural teachings, they aim to help parents know their children, help their children feel right (by attending to all of their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs and establishing in them a source of well-being), and lead their children to Christ. Comprehensive, informative, and full of practical advice, this book is a valuable resource.

Heather, RN5 Stars Out Of 5October 20, 2005Heather, RNDr. Sears is a Biblical man teaching the way Jesus taught when he walked the earth-love and respect (yes, even children!). Dr. Sears is the opposite of hitting/beating proponets like Ezzo and Pearls, who teach child neglect and abuse. Children I know who are raised the way Dr. Sears teaches are close to family and loving adults.
Meredith B.5 Stars Out Of 5February 26, 2005Meredith B.I was thrilled as a mother to find that there is someone out there who is willing to give good solid parenting advice through the perspective of a Christian, medical professional and parent! As a mother of 2 so far, I have watched my daughters flourish being attached to their parents and my husband and I have been encouraged that God designed families to live together in harmony--working through tough situations--and parenting can lend to lots of difficulties, including disobedience. God gives us rules to live by and so we must give those to our children. But, God gives rules and then stays close by to help us follow them and grow. God is an ever present help and Sears encourages parents to be an example of that love and compassion for our children as we guide them through life. Our God is certainly attached to His children! :) I have always appreciated the way the Sears share from their own experiences. It shows that God allows situations so that we can grow and encourage the Body of Christ through our own experiences. This book--as well as other Sears' books I've read are sound in parenting advice and this book is sound Biblically as well. The Sears are a blessing to Christian parents and the world at large.
Candice Anastasi1 Stars Out Of 5December 7, 2004Candice AnastasiAs a Christian, I have 4 objections to the contents of this book:1.1. The Sears state in their book that they came to the conclusion that attachment parenting is Gods design for parenting based on study of scientific research, experience and praying about it. They try to make their theory look Biblical, but misuse and misinterpret Scripture in the process. Scripture should always have the highest level of authority in a Christians life. 2. In the Sears discussion of discipline, they leave out a crucial and foundational element-the sin nature of the child and how that effects the discipline process. They emphasize over and over that if you make a child feel right, he will act right. The Bible teaches otherwise. First of all, obedience to God is never conditional. Scripture does not say that we are to obey God once we feel right, or once we have a sufficient love for ourselves. NO! The Bible teaches that we are to obey His Word regardless of how we feel, and regardless of the consequences. Secondly, the Bible teaches us that the heart of man is desperately wicked above all else and there is no one who does good, not even one. In parenting, not understanding this sin nature and dealing with it in our children is a serious problem. 3.The Sears repeatedly tell the reader not to listen to the advice of anyone who disagrees with attachment parenting. This is telling the reader to disobey the Proverbs. The Proverbs teach over and over that a wise man listens to counsel.4. Although they give lip service to the truly Biblical priorities of God first, spouse second, children third, and others fourth, it is only lip service. The practical application of their parenting philosophy places the highest priority on the nursing mother/baby relationship to the detriment of the husband/wife and mother/older weaned child relationships. Spending time alone with your spouse without your kids is criticized heavily in this book.
Lori C.5 Stars Out Of 5October 20, 2002Lori C.I must admit that I was skeptical when I picked up this book. I have read Dr. Sears secular books and adore them, but was afraid that the Christian aspect would be "whitewashed" in this book. Boy, was I wrong. This book began by stating that, in the spirit if Titus 2, it is a woman's job to mentor other women in the art of mothering. This is one of the most non-judgemental Christian parenting books that I have ever come across. Dr. and Martha Sears actually believe that if they give you information, then you can make the choices that are best for your family as led by the Spirit. Packed full of scripture for new Moms and veterans. Phenomenal.
