Product Description

Common Grace is often considered Abraham Kuyper’s crowning work, an exploration of how God expresses grace even to the unsaved. Kuyper firmly believed that though many people in the world will remain unconverted, God’s grace is still shown to the world as a whole. The second volume of Common Grace contains Kuyper’s doctrinal exploration of the impact and implications of this aspect of Reformed theology.

Publisher's Description

Common Grace is often considered Abraham Kuyper's crowning work, an exploration of how God expresses grace even to the unsaved. This second volume of Common Grace contains Kuyper's doctrinal exploration of the impact and implications of this aspect of Reformed theology.

This translation of Common Grace, created in partnership with the Kuyper Translation Society and the Acton Institute, is part of a major series of new translations of Kuyper's most important writings. The Abraham Kuyper Collected Works in Public Theology marks a historic moment in Kuyper studies, aimed at deepening and enriching the church's development of public theology.

James Bratt (Ph.D., Yale University) taught in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Pittsburgh before returning to his alma mater, Calvin College, where he taught in the history department for 29 years until his retirement in 2016. He has received numerous scholarly awards, including three Fulbright grants for research in the Netherlands and teaching in China. He is author of Abraham Kuyper: Modern Calvinist, Christian Democrat (Eerdmans, 2013), the definitive English-language biography of Kuyper, and editor of the path-breaking English translation of Kuyper's shorter works, Abraham Kuyper: A Centennial Reader (Eerdmans, 1998).

Abraham Kuyper (1837-1920) was a leading Dutch figure in education, politics, and theology. He was a minister in the Dutch Reformed Church, was appointed to Parliament, and served as prime minister. Kuyper also founded the Free University (VU) in Amsterdam, a political party, and a denomination, in addition to writing on a dizzying array of subjects.
