A new series, but many familiar characters from a previous series. I enjoyed reading about Astrid as a grown woman who has studied and prepared to become a doctor in the Old West. Most of her younger years were spent in Colorado where her older sister had taken her with the hope that the mountain air would help heal her of consumption. However, her years in Chicago while training to become a doctor have taken a toll on her health. Now she is back in Fairplay, Colorado, and hoping to join with the local doctor who is seeking a partner. Logan Steele wants to take a partner into his practice so he can ease his way out and return to Boston, leaving the practice to his partner. Besides the fact that most of the local citizens, the men in particular, do not take to the idea of a woman physician, she and Logan have past history that could make working together difficult. That is, if he will give her the chance to prove she is a good doctor. The situation becomes dicey when Astrid tells a cowboy that she and Logan are engaged, just to get the cowboy to leave her alone. Will she ever get herself out of that mess? The tension mounts throughout the story as numerous situations continue to unfold. Great story telling. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. Going back to Fairplay, Colorado and seeing the McQuaid family again was a real treat! I'm so glad Astrid got her own story...and what a fun one it is! She's come back home to the mountains and is determined to work as a doctor but she runs into Logan, a man from her past, who she once adored then was mad as can be at when he left without a word. Now they reconnect and hatch a plan to make both his mama happy and the townsfolk accept her more readily.

Fun romance, great setting, engaging story-line...what more could I want?! It's just perfect!

I honestly can't get enough of Jody Hedlund's books and read them as fast as they come out. In my eyes, everything she writes is magic!

A sizzling, swoon worthy start to a brand new series! As a huge fan of Jody Hedlund*s Colorado Cowboys series, I was eagerly anticipating her new Colorado Cowgirls series. So far, so amazing! It*s every bit as captivating and I was so excited to see familiar characters again and loved the new characters introduced.

I loved Greta*s little sister Astrid Nilsson who*s featured throughout the Colorado Cowboys series. Now she*s all grown up and a well trained doctor to boot. Wanting to return home to be with family and to try to get her consumption back under control, she answers an advertisement for a doctor*s position in Fairplay. But, the person she least expects to be interviewing her is her former childhood sweetheart and the boy who hurt her eight years ago when he left unexpectedly.

Logan Steele has temporarily accepted a position as Fairplay*s town doctor so he can spend time with his dying mother. He*s anxious to interview a new doctor to take his place so he can return to Boston when the time comes. When he sees Astrid, he*s astounded at how his childhood friend has grown even more beautiful and intelligent since he last saw her. He agrees to allow her to work with him on a trial basis if she allows him to pretend to court her for his mother*s sake. Soon though the old sparks fly between them and their courtship seems anything but pretend. Logan*s meddling mother spreads the word and they find themselves in a fake engagement with a quickly anticipated wedding.

Neither Logan nor Astrid are wanting to marry, yet the more time they spend with each other the more they wish things could be real. But, Logan*s determined to leave for Boston and Astrid is not sure it*s fair to marry when her health is so precarious. When illness strikes the town, their strong feelings are put into perspective.

This book kept me quickly turning the pages. The romance between Logan and Astrid was fiery with a passionate undercurrent. While everything is kept clean, there are definitely some kisses that*ll scorch your kindle. Since they grew up together, they have a strong connection that makes the romance even more sweet and enjoyable. I loved the way Logan respected Astrid*s abilities despite the prejudices against women doctors in the late 1870*s.

This is a must read for Western romance fans especially Jody Hedlund Colorado Cowboys series fans. I can*t wait for the next book. Since it*s a brand new series, this book can definitely be read as a standalone. It*s even more enjoyable though if you*re familiar with the Colorado Cowboys series. Yee-haw! Now it is the cowgirls turn with a new series Colorado Cowgirls. The McQuaid brothers and their families from the Colorado Cowboys series make appearances and Author Jody Hedlund handles that masterfully so the reader does not get lost. Book #1 starts with a continuation of a grown-up Astrid Nilsson who has returned to Fairplay, Colorado after six years. She has worked hard to become a full-fledged doctor but is not being taken seriously. She tries to convince the current doctor Logan Steele to take her on as a partner, but he is hesitant. She is not so sure it is in her best interest either since he had spurned her years ago. Then Logan comes up with an offer she cannot refuse. He will give her the doctor position on a trial basis. All she must do is pretend to court him to appease his mother. Will they find themselves in a situation where there is no turning back? I am going to love this series!

I LOVED Jody Hedlund's Colorado Cowboys series, so when I saw this spinoff series, I knew I had to read it. This first book does not disappoint.

I was up in the mountains of Colorado with Astrid and Logan, watching their story unfurl. Watching Astrid as she fought for respect as a female doctor in the 1800s. Watching Logan's mom battle cancer. Watching Logan and Astrid both battle their inner demons. This book was heart wrenching, heart warming, and heart eyes. I loved it. Now I want to go to Colorado.

AND!! There's a Charity in it! Automatic 5 stars from me. Now here's hoping one of the books will be ABOUT said Charity!
