Tell us a little about yourself. I have been happily married to Karen for over 22 years. Together we enjoy raising our nine children to love Jesus by walking according to His Word. I am a former hospice chaplain and have been the pastor of Immanuel Bible Church in Sheboygan, Wisconsin since 1992 and am also a biblical counselor certified with NANC and IABC.
What was your motivation behind this project? As a former hospice chaplain, I was burdened for those who walk through the valley of the shadow of death and wanted to provide a biblical resource that would help those who minister to others in their time of grief and loss.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope readers will become more confident in God's sovereignty in the midst of trials, especially the most difficult of all trials--death. I hope they will grow in their love for the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our afflictions so that we may be able to comfort others.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? This book is dedicated to the memory of a dear sister in Christ in our church. The Lord opened the door to write this book only months after she went to be with Jesus. God used the writing of this book to minister deeply to my own heart in what is commonly referred to as "the grieving process."
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Jerry Bridges, John MacArthur, Steve Lawson, Jay Adams, Wayne Mack, the Puritans, C.J. Mahaney, John Piper, D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, David Powlison, C.H. Spurgeon, David Wells, A.W. Tozer, and others.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Pastor Paul Tautges is a man with a missiona mission to minister to the broken-hearted. Hes as comfortable carrying out this mission on a large scale (funerals and memorial services) as he is on an individual, personal scale. This book gives us a glimpse into the heart of a pastor who possesses a love for his flock, a sound grasp of the Scriptures and a calling to comfort the hurting in a biblical, compassionate way. Deborah Howard, RN, Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse, and author of Sunsets: Reflections for Lifes Final Journey Paul Tautges gives pastors and other compassionate caregivers a very unusual and much-needed bookone that is thoroughly biblical and immensely practical. He teaches us how to biblically comfort hurting and dying people. Every minister of the gospel will find it helpful. I know of no book like Comfort Those Who Grieve. After over fifty years in the ministry, I learned much from Pastor Tautges and wish that I could have read it much earlier. Curtis C. Thomas, pastor for over fifty years, Bible teacher, and author of Life in the Body Here is biblical, insightful, and practical advice regarding serving those who grieve. Written with the tenderness and understanding of a gentle pastor, this book will be a helpful manual for those who guide others through the valley of the shadow of death. I hope it gains wide distribution! Dr. Les Lofquist, IFCA International Executive Director Few have attempted to offer comfort to those who grieve, and fewer have been as successful as Pastor Paul Tautges in this much-needed book. I commend this wonderful little volume. It is a veritable anthology of practical helps for those who are grieving and for those who attempt to minister to their needs. Therefore I recommend it as a book for all deacons, elders, pastors and lay persons. It is an important tool. Dr. Walter C. Kaiser, Jr. President Emeritus, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Hamilton, Massachusetts, USA
