Publisher's Description

Come Inside is not only an invitation into the Ark, but also into God's Word. This book is a collection of devotions designed just for kids. Market testing showed that after kids read a devotion, without fail, each one expressed a hunger to learn more about God and His ways. Parents were amazed at their child's interest and were asking for more.

Did you know that a giraffe's heart can weigh as much as 22 pounds and be up to two feet in length, or that a kangaroo can hop at speeds up to 40 miles per hour and is able to jump up to ten feet in the air?

I didn't until I read Come Inside: 31 Days of Devotions, written by Judith A. Harrah. It's a book with 31 days worth of Bible devotions for children. Most of the devotions start with interesting facts and stories about animals. The stories relate either to animals or to the biblical tale of Noah and the Ark (as there is a picture of the ark on the front of the book). Each devotion is complete with a story, at least one Bible reference (most have two), and a short prayer for children that relates to the story and verse.

The author recommends that you read one devotion per day for 31 days. Then, when you've finished the book, either start over or use another devotional book. The author also suggests this book can be used by both parents and children during a family devotion time or solely by children who are ready to do devotions by themselves.

The author includes an Introduction for Parents at the beginning of the book and a list of Sources where she obtained the animal facts she included in the text.

What I Like: I love the wonderful cartoon-like animal illustrations that were done by Jack Foster. I also like the devotions themselves. They are short, well-written and relevant to children's lives.

What I Dislike: I'm being picky here, but I wanted to point out that the Introduction for Parents says each devotional opens with interesting animal facts. This is not completely true. Most of them do but not all of them do.

    Overall Rating: Excellent.
