Cold Shot is the first book in the Chesapeake Valor Series.

Former Swat sniper, Griffin McCray now lives a quiet solitary life as a park ranger, but the discovery of a skeleton a national park forces him to call in forensic anthropologist Finley Scott. As she works, she finds that this is a modern skeleton, and she is making someone so nervous that she is now receiving death threats.

Griffin's past as a sniper and how that was worked into the story was was fascinating. I was quite intrigued with his character struggling to put his past behind him and yet using that past to save Finley's life. I loved watching how his faith as a Christian grew throughout the book and the path that he found himself walking was not perfect but it was right thing to do.

Griffin and Finley made a great couple, very believable. They had a great dynamic and I enjoyed reading their story.

The book also introduces us to Griffin's college Buddy's Parker and Declean, who play pivotal parts in the story. The biggest problem I had was that there were just too many people and to many sub-plots going on. It took me half the book to get it all sorted out. Then again maybe this was just me having trouble. However that being said I thought the overall storyline was well-thought-out and well written. All the characters were very realistic with their personality traits and quirks, and they all had great depth to them. There was humor as well as drama which made for a well rounded story and I would definitely recommend this book.

Cold Shot is the first book in Dani Pettrey's new Chesapeake Valor Series. It does not disappoint! It's the story of life-long friends who have had the best of times together and the absolute worst of times together. Their lives are continually merging because of their chosen professions of differing branches of law enforcement. They always have each other's backs. This book has great characterization, chemistry among the characters, interesting background and settings, great mystery, and intrigue to keep you interested from beginning to end. Can't wait to see what happens next!!

Griffin has love and he has lost, he lost someone very close to him and his best friend went missing. Griffin left his job as a SWAT sniper agent and he is ready to put that life behind him. As working as a ranger he stumbles upon two guys and a dead boy on what should have been a battle field in the civil war. What he discover puts him and his friends in what appears grave danger. They seek to find out whats happening and he needs to do one thing protect Finley and keep his heart in tact and his mind on the game it seems these guys are playing. Finley is a Forensic Anthropologist and is called out when a dead body is found and it brings back a situation that seems to hit to close to home for her and she knows she need to fight the demons of the past and get to the bottom of this murder. But when things start happening it appears that someone has it out to stop them at no cost. Will Finley, Griffin and his friends be able to find the killers and bring them to justice or will one of them end up dead?

Oh My gosh what can I say about this book, from the first page it had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed this book just when you think you have the story figured out the author throws in a twist to the story. The author does an amazing job at keeping you hooked on the story till the very end. I can't wait to read more from these friends. The twist and turns in the story truly will keep wanting more and keeps you guessing till the very end. This book is listed as a romance suspense, while there is a ton of suspense in the book there is not a whole lot of romance but the way its played out is very natural and doesn't seemed forced at all, and its the perfect amount. You really can not go wrong with this book its a good clean read with a suspense add to the mix.

As you have already guessed from the 5-star rating, this book is PHENOMENAL! This is one of my favorite suspense novels of all time. To start of listing all the good thing about this book, the first is character development. I think the best thing Dani Pettrey did was convey the characters emotions. It was almost like I could feel what they were feeling. Second, is that Griffin McGray has three best friends. So the story isnt always about him. You never get bored with it. It was so refreshing to read a story like that. Third, is that Finley Scott is a Forensic Anthropologist. The work she did was so interesting (in a non-gruesome way). So I did learn a little bit from reading this book, which is pretty rare. The humor in it is icing on the cake. On top of that, it was so good that I almost read it all in one day! Should I go on?
