I find the information in the book to be credible and I believe that you could achieve the results if you follow the plan. However, the plan is not feasible for me or my family, or most of the people I know. The book itself is frustrating to read, and difficult to get to the information most of us want to know. Much of it is explaining his process of proving and testing his theories and principles, which some may find interesting and helpful. But if you're looking for a book that is primarily diet plans and recipes, this is not the book for you.

Dr. Colbert is very interested in providing patients with great, simple information to take care of themselves with. The only hard part is sticking with it, but it works if you do and the carb cravings eventually subside! i say Eventually! Sugar is just addictive for me and i want it regardless if there is a craving or not! I can even shed weight with minimal exercise with this plan. Im just not big on exercise. Im just a walker and prefer my exercise to just be a daily 20-30 minute walk.

For those of us who are on our umptienth diet attempt with numerous books under our belt then you will need to read through numerous chapters of filler material meant to sell the reader on the need for this diet approach and its winning points. That is, the real meat and potatoes (oops sorry, skip those taters) of the book come way too late for my taste. Basically you're directed to eat more fat (70%), less protein (20%) and little in the way carbohydrates (10%). The sources of carbohydrates are well known to any experienced dieter (think greens, cold crop types like broccoli, kale, etc.). You will probably be surprised at how few fruits are allowed (think berries like blue berries, strawberries, raspeberries, etc.). Be prepared for the sales pitch for supplements like (MCT Oil, Ketosis strips, multivitamins, probiotics, etc.) and other products meant to reduce the body's attempt to convert food to fat storage and to increase good gut health. Don't get me wrong, as his advice (similar to other diets) correctly turns the reader away from high glycemic/loading foods that are making people fat and worse. In my humble opinion the diet will work and if combined with healthy exercise (as he prescribes) you should see success. I was disappointed with how far into the book you had to read before getting to the information you truly need to implement. Disappointing was how few recipes were provided. Maybe his follow up book is more to the point? Just know that there are numerous free websites for the Keto Zone diet with far more information to get you up and running much faster.
