Close to You, debut novel by Kara Isaac is quite an entertaining contemporary romance. Alison and Jackson meet on a three week tour of Tolkein's New Zealand and the snarkiness begins! Both have baggage from the past, big baggage, hurtful baggage, destructive baggge. Can they get past the previous disatrous relationships and begin something new? Will they be able to see beyond their wounds and understand that life does not have to be defined by their mistakes? Isaac, amidst the background of The Lord of the Rings, blends a great storyline and flawed, charming characters with humor, faith and family values to bring readers a delightful love story. Looking forward to reading more of this author's work.

Allison Shire's life as an academic fell apart the day that her husbands wife walked into the middle of her lecture. With a Ph.D. in English, Allison has left the university world and run home to piece together her life again, becoming a guide for luxury tours of New Zealand. On one of her last tours, Allisons group includes Jackson Gregory, a failed businessman with his own share of relationship challenges. After his girlfriend ran off with his trade secrets and his biggest competition, Jackson is desperate to please his wealthy great-uncle on a zany trip to New Zealand, even if it means three weeks of Tolkien references that he does not understand. Together, Allison and Jackson discover the true meaning of second chances and seeing through one another to their true selves, against some of the craziest odds ever conceived in fiction or real life.

Ms. Isaac brings the fantastic landscape of New Zealand to life in her debut novel, Close to You. Fans of Tolkien and the latest film series will be absolutely thrilled with Ms. Isaac's depiction of his literary works and the behind-the-scenes life of those who call the film sets home.

Overall, I was absolutely delighted with Close to You! Melissa Tagg, Becky Wade, and several other notable Christian authors highly recommended this novel. With the added benefit of having read Ms. Isaac' sophomore work, Can't Help Falling, I was eager to see what she would do with a story set in her native New Zealand. She certainly did not disappoint! With an incredible eye for detail and comedic timing, Ms. Isaac offers a fun and fascinating tale filled with excellent and complex characters. Additionally, she presents a unique and engaging storyline that will keep readers absolutely riveted.

    Thanks!

    I love this story!

Allison Shire is a brilliant book nerd (doctorate level, serious stuff). Unfortunately, shes stuck in legal and emotional limbo thanks to her con-artist husband. So instead of inspiring young minds in the lecture halls of a prestigious university, Allie is tour guide/babysitter to the rich and Tolkien-crazed often in costume.

Jackson Gregory is trying to get his life back in order after the catastrophe that was his backstabbing girlfriend. Jackson is desperate to save his familys farm and repay his investors. Jackson and Allison clash and grate on one anothers nerves from the start but the more time they spend together, the harder it is to maintain their hate-hate relationship.

I love the abundance of quirky characters, virtually traveling all over New Zealand, and learning a bit about J.R.R. Tolkien along the way!

I won this book in a giveaway hosted by the author and the lovely ladies at Seekerville. My thanks to the publisher, author, and bloggers! The opinions expressed are my own.

Kara Isaac took my breath away with such a beautiful story. I can't wait to get my hands on her next release coming out in just a few weeks! Filled with so many dynamics, I was biting my nails, laughing out loud, sighing with relief, and at times, even yelling at the book. I have always been a fan of Tolkien and so I found the setting both brilliant and intriguing. This story hit close to home in the fact that I know what it is to be hurt and have a fear of trusting people. It was so encouraging though to watch Allie and Jackson's journey. Cheering them on and hoping they find their healing in Lord along the way. Filled with quotes from Tolkien and random #NerdGirl knowledge, I had so much fun reading Close to You. This is THE book that I chose to read on my way home from Nashville. I think the people on my flights thought I was crazy for the giggling that commenced a couple of times. If you enjoy a good, clean romance, Lord of the Rings, and New Zealand, you will fall head over teakettle for Kara Isaac and Close to You!

I received a free copy of Close to You in my "Swag Bag" from Christian Fiction Readers Retreat, Nashville, 2016. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

CLOSE TO YOU is an entertaining romance between two seemingly incompatible people. Dr. Allison Shire is an academic, an expert on J. R. R. Tolkien's works, who was forced to leave her teaching job and is now working as a tour guide of sites in New Zealand made famous by The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit movies. Jackson Gregory is on the tour as an assistant to his extremely wealthy great uncle Louis, who he is hoping will invest in an idea Jackson has for a new company. His live-in girlfriend recently stole his company secrets, taking them (and herself) to his competitor, forcing Jackson (and his investors) into financial ruin. This tour is naturally for Tolkien enthusiasts. I related a lot to Jackson in this respect, because he doesn't have much of a clue about any of this (though he does try to study the movies enough to fake it somewhat), and neither do I. There were some very funny parts in the book, usually scenes between Allie and Jackson, who didn't like each other for much of the story. They found themselves attracted, but were quite annoyed about it. The reasons behind Allie's legal trouble was an interesting twist, as was the ending of the book. As their troubles increased, they both found themselves turning to God, which sometimes surprised them. It was interesting to see both Allie and Jackson become stronger in character throughout the book, Jackson especially. Even if you aren't a Lord of the Rings fan, you can enjoy this romance.
