Close as Breath by Callie Grant is a beautiful book. This book delighted me and my children. The book is based on Romans 1:20 dealing with creation and God's invisible qualities. A little girl asks her father in beautiful pictures about the air, changing leaves, and how water freezes. The father kindly answers and points her to her Heavenly Father. I love how Close as Breath and other books help to open up good conversations with your children about God. This one uses creation to point our children to their awesome Creator. I highly recommend it.

Another beautiful book by Ms Grant! Who knew that with such simple words and a simple story you can help explain to a child how to know God is there. The fun rhyming words make it a pleasure to read aloud to your children. The colorful and beautiful pictures on each page make the story flow. The little girl in the book asks her dad the questions we all hear from our kids. It gives this book the specialness that a child can connect to. What a fantastic way to explain Gods presence to a little one through noticing things in nature! I highly recommend this for any family and for gifts to those having kids. We will be reading this one many times over.

Close as Breath is a sweet and short read written for kids ages 0-6. It makes me laugh as a parent, as its opening pages capture so well the many questions our children ask us about what they see around them and how it works. Why, why, why?! The book speaks beautifully to the truth that we can experience and see God in the world He created around us. This is such an important thing for our children to grasp, and a way for them to connect with God from a young age. I love how the book captures both childlike wonder and simple and powerful truths about God: that He is as close as our breath, He gives us and all things life, He keeps His promises, and His presence is all around us, alive everywhere. What a beautiful tool to teach our young children about our alive and ever present good God! Discussion easily flows about how we can see Him and His goodness every time we step outside or look out our windows.

Close as a Breath is an 'Absorb' board book title for 0-8 year olds in the Graham Blanchard series of books, indicating that the book is written to help children connect facts about God with their inner lives.

The story follows a father and daughter on an outdoor walk. The daughter asks a variety of simple questions and the father offers answers. He eventually offers that God is in all places and the closing scripture passage explains how God is made known through His creation.

The work is lushly illustrated with large, softly blended landscapes by Sarah Ackerley. The text by Callie Grant, while simple and child-appropriate, does seem a bit forced into a semi-repetitive, somewhat inconsistent rhyming scheme. This is a strong preference of mine, that text be either prose or clearly consistent poetry, and not somewhere in between.

I love the beautiful nature scenes and the theme of God being known through His creation. Ultimately, the message didn't seem to come all the way home for its intended age group (my 9-yo seems to resonate the most with it, but the text and format are overly simple for her).

I received a review copy of this title. All thoughts are my own.

This is a nice little board book about a young girl who asks all kinds of questions. She wants to know about the air, the leaves changing, water freezing, the stars, and more. Her father wisely answers all her questions, and tell her about God. That He is the Creator, and even though He is far away, He is also "close as a breath".

Creation speaks of God, Romans 1:20 says so. The author in a very sweet way conveys that idea through the book. Kids are full of questions. Especially when they hit the Why?Why?Why? stage. This book is a great way to answer those questions. The illustrations are done very nicely also. I think it is a cozy read! Curl up and enjoy it with your child.

I received this book from the author and Bookfun.org in exchange for my honest opinion.
