Volume 1 features classics such as The Little Red Hen, The Fox and The Crane, and The Lion and the Mouse as well as more obscure stories like The Fox on the Hill, The Pine Tree and Its Needles, Little Mouse and the Strangers, and The Hummingbird and the Butterfly.
Volume 2 features The Ugly Duckling, The Pied Piper of Hamelin, The Two Frogs, The Three Wishes, and The Fox Without a Tail.
Volume 3A includes 18 stories, 19 poems and includes lessons learned from stories such as Why the Larks Flew Away, animal tales such as Chipmunk and Bear and Black Beauty, tales of the Brother Grimm, and Greek and Roman Myths. The poetry section of this volume is focused on Happiness in the World, Animal Friends, and Nature. Medium sized fonts with black & white images enable children to focus on the story.
Volume 3B includes 18 stories and 16 poems. Volume 5B includes 11 stories and 23 poems. Stories include Shakespeare's The Tempest, Sherlock Holmes, Little Women, and the Life of Frederick Douglass. The poetry section of this volume is focused on Transportation and American Themes.
The stories in Volumes 6, 7, and 8 have been chosen for the challenge they offer the reader and the variety of language used. The stories and poems come with thesaurus of difficult words at the bottom of the page to help increase vocabulary while introducing children to a wide variety of writing styles.
Stories in Classics for Young Readers Volume 6 range from those offering lessons learned to life stories such as Young Pablo Casals, to stories from Bible and famous books such as Jungle Book. A collection of poems is focused on the seasons and Alice in Wonderland.
Stories in Classics for Young Readers Volume 7 include those of scientists such as Daniel Hale Williams, stories from Bible, and life stories. The poetry collection includes some works by Emily Dickinson.
Stories in Classics for Young Readers Volume 8 include a careful selection of autobiographical stories such as A Cub Pilot from Mark Twain, stories in verse, short stories, selections from Bible as literature, speeches by Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, and a drama by Sophocles. The poetry section of this volume is a collection of poems focused on the seasons, voices and viewpoints, and ideas.
