Series: On the Runway
Erin is not sure where her relationship stands with Blake after everything that happened while she was away filming her show in the Bahamas. All she knows is she would be okay with an exclusive relationship. Unfortunately, he and his pal Ben are about to launch a new reality TV show which could ruin every chance of getting Blake to be her boyfriend again. Meanwhile, Erin's boss, Fran, is dealing with surgeries and chemotherapy, and her friend Mollie needs help with being a new mom to her baby, Fern. In the midst of dealing with all of these situations, Erin must also help Paige deal with her engagement to Dylan Marceau and the possibility of a cheating scandal.
Carlson's language is simple and clear, making it perfect for teen readers. Her writing is a mix of dialogue and journal-style writing, written so that the reader is able to experience the progressing action while simultaneously being aware of Erin's feelings. Carlson sets up the characters so the reader does not need to have background knowledge from her previous books in the series. She allows the reader to see the dark side of Paige and how her lack of faith in God affects the way she lives. Carlson does an excellent job of portraying the fashion and television industries and the problems people involved seem to have with material and worldly things. Carlson portrays Erin as a beacon of hope in this messed up industry by allowing people into her life whom she can help her show Christian virtues.
Erin's main flaw seems to be that she is unable to lean on God and give Him her burdens without a reminder during her struggles. A central theme to this novel is Proverbs 3:5-6, which reads, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (NIV). At the beginning of the novel, Fran's mother, Mrs. Bishop, is quite overbearing and wants to help Fran by taking everything into her own hands and not letting Fran decide what to do about her hospital care. Erin helps Mrs. Bishop learn to let God take her burdens regarding Frans situation. This allows the two to pray that God will help them not to lean on their own strength and understanding, but to be supportive of Fran. At the end of the novel, Erin encounters another situation where this verse's theme fits perfectly. God places Gabin in Erin's life to remind her to trust in God and rely on His strength through all of her hardships.
The main topics in this novel are romantic relationships and worldly/material issues, such as drinking, cheating, and wanting material possessions. Paige struggles with wanting to go further physically in her relationship with her fiance, and she also seems to have had a drinking problem in the past. Erin is the only positive influence on Paige's life, the one who is able to get through to her and help her realize when she is in murky waters. This novel has themes for maturing Christians and is perfect for teen girls who have a passion for fashion. Diana L. Friend, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
LalaAge: 18-24Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Good, but not what I expected!September 30, 2011LalaAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4Ciao was a good finishing book in the series On The Runway, but I have to say I was slightly disappointed by the ending! I thought there would be more to the the last book in the series, like what about Erin and Gabin? Will they date? Did Blake ever hook up with Grace? Or will Blake hook up with Erin again? Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed this book and this entire series I just was expecting a different ending! I wish there was going to be more in the series! I'm not ready to let Paige and Erin go because there lives seem so fun and Erin always stuck with her faith! :) Overall I would say a 4.5 stars!

In Ciao which by the way is Italian for Goodbye , we see the girls off to Milan eventually but not before heading to New York. So , what's our favourite characters been up to as it feels like a while since Ive read a On the Runway novel. Paige's engagement to Dylan has been called off or is it back on as at the end of Book #5 in the Bahamas we read as Dylan stayed the night in Eliza's room , though Dylan swears black and blue nothing happened, his actions and Eliza's words speak otherwise. Can Paige and Dylan work things out or is this the end of the happy couple ? Benjamin Kross and Blake are about to get a taste of their own reality show and it's move over On the Runway and Hello Celebrity Blind Dates. Is Blake ready for the big screen ? Fran's leukemia isn't going well but thank goodness that they have found a bone marrow transplant for her , as she goes in for surgery - will the results be positive or is it sad news for the On the Runway cast ? Paige and Erin's mum is over the moon with her new husband Jon but when she leaves Channel 5 News to help step into Fran's shoes - can she switch between the roles of Mother, Parent to Producer/Director ? Mollie , is the proud mother of a baby girl called Fern -she should be happy but Mollie is suffering from a case of PPD - Post Partum Depression aka Baby Blues , can Erin get the help Mollie needs ?
Find out all this and more in Ciao -On the Runway by my favourite Christian Author Melody Carlson.

By Melody Carlson
Reality is an illusion as Paige and Erin Forrester are about to discover.
Paige is basking in the limelight of her TV career in fashion - she hosts and stars in ON THE RUNWAY, travels the world, and is engaged to rising fashion designer Dylan Marceau. Can life get any better!
Meanwhile younger sister Erin, who also stars in ON THE RUNWAY, is worried about her friends. Mollie a new single mom is dealing with the choices she's made. Her maybe boyfriend Blake is caught up in his new reality show. Fran is fighting Leukemia. And Erin is always concerned for Paige and her relationship with Dylan. But through it all Erin leans on her faith in God and always Him to lead her and to give her strength to help those who are dear to her.
This book will appeal to teens and young adults who follow reality shows and the fashion industry. The behind the scenes look at the lives of people who "live the life" should give anyone pause who desires it. What you see on the camera is not real, but is in fact an elaborate illusion created by those behind and in front of the camera.
CIAO is a good read with a thoughtfully delivered message!
