    The old ways

I have been the church pianist since my early teen days. So nearly 50 years. I disagree with the hard to read notes when the shape notes are used. I find it more difficult to play with the round notes when accompanying a choir or group who sing the true "Bass/tenor/alto /soprano splits. I was raised with the shape notes and understand the purpose. that is a priority when selecting a hymnal for me. Don't get me wrong i can play with round and do from time to time but my priority with gospel music is shaped notes. Not old fashioned just a true mark of a trained church pianist.

    Hard to read notes
    December 7, 2020
i needed larger print to be able to see clearly. The. notes in this book are the old-fashioned shape notes and are very difficult to read. Its also missing one of my all-time favorite hymns that is in every other hymnal ive owned. Ill be returning this one.

Song book does not have current notes for p;ianist
    March 27, 2020
The book itself is well put together. However, my wife is a pianist and she noticed immediately that the songs all used "shape" notes which went out of practice perhaps 50 years ago. She said she could not play adequately and we returned them. I believe that the notes describing this book before ordering should have said these were older songs with "shaped" notes.
