Melody Carlson's Christmas novellas are a yearly tradition for me. I always enjoy her new Christmas read each year. This year's release is my favorite yet. As someone who loves all things France, this story was right up my France alley. I was charmed by this story about Simone who is looking for answers to her Great Grandmother's history. The settings in this story are beautiful and make me desperately want to visit. The story itself was sweet and one I really enjoyed. Great read to put you in the Christmas spirit!

I received this book from the publisher and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

Christmas in the Alps is a quick read and perfect for those tiny bits of time one has when preparing for Christmas! Melody Carlson whisks us away to the French Alps with Simone, where she hopes to find a hidden family treasure but instead discovers family, romance, and a unique new career. All of these changes happen within a snowy Christmasy wonderland that I recommend one visit - it's a delightful way to spend a few hours. My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel for this honest review.

With the death of her grandmother, Simone has lost all her family. While cleaning out her grandmother's house, an un-opened letter for her is found. It is a mysterious letter from her French great-grandmother, her namesake Simone, begging her to go to her French hometown, Avre, and find her treasure.

While Simone, wants to blow it off, her friend, Andrea, convinces her to go. She suggests Simone might find family there, or at least spend Christmas in an enchanting place. If the treasure exists, it is a bonus. This is how Simone finds herself staying in a storybook setting at Christmastime, and discovering that she does, indeed, have family still there. However, when she meets her great-aunt, the woman takes an instant dislike to her, and orders her out of her home.

Should Simone pack up and leave since she isn't wanted? How can she find the treasure if the one person who could help hates her? Will her coincidental meeting with Kyle lead to something serious, or does he have any romantic feelings for her?

This is a fun Christmas book, full of holiday fun, the wonders of a French Christmas, a little romance, and a mystery, too. Reading this will put you in the holiday mood, and bring you Christmas cheer. This would make a fine gift for yourself, or someone you care about. I recommend this five-star book to everyone who likes Christmas, or wants to stir up the spirit of the season!

Revell Books provided Tickmenot for a book copy to review. Opinions are my own.

Thanks to LibraryThing for an advance reader copy. All comments and opinions are my own.

This was a short and sweet Christmas-time novella that is just right for reading during the holidays or anytime you want to be transported to the French Alps during the winter season. I liked Simone Winthrop right from the start, even though she was afraid of flying and because of her fear had to be convinced into taking a trip to France. (Who doesn't want to go to France?)! The story begins when Simone and her best friend Andrea discover a three-year-old unopened letter addressed to Simone and written by her French great-grandmother. It urges Simone to travel to the French Alps to visit her family (of whom Simone was unaware) and hints at a treasure that has been left for her there.

Despite her fear Simone finds herself on a plane, where she meets Kyle, an attractive and friendly young man who encourages her in dealing with her flying anxiety. The rest of the novella takes place in France with many delicious dinners, tea and treats, snow and twinkling Christmas lights. Will she be able to locate her French family members? Will she discover the treasure promised her by her great-grandmother? Will she reconnect with Kyle?

While reading I advise you to reserve your critical thinking and just enjoy the story, because there are many coincidences that could have been addressed more realistically if this was a full-length novel. This was my first book by Melody Carlson, but apparently many in-the-know readers look forward to her annual Christmas novellas.

My thoughts: Melody Carlson is an avid writer in almost all genres but what I really look forward to each year is her annual Christmas book. This one takes a grieving granddaughter away from the only home she's ever known to a foreign land where she doesn't even know the language in search of a treasure. What is the treasure? I had my suspicions but I was partly wrong and partly right. The heroine was sweet and naive, opening up to complete strangers and telling everything she knows which kind of made her unwelcome in some circles and welcomed in others. I loved the way the story came together and I loved the ending and the cover is absolutely gorgeous. I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own.
