JamesAlbany,NYAge: 45-54Gender: male2 Stars Out Of 5leaves out the Reason for the SeasonDecember 10, 2015JamesAlbany,NYAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 2Value: 2Meets Expectations: 2the film has pros and cons. my review title shows a big negative: no mention of St. Nickolaus being the Christian bishop of Myra in Asia Minor, spending time in jail for his faith. it draws on some true elements of his life: he was orphaned at a young age, inherited wealth and spent it helping the poor and made toys for children. however, the rest of the story told here is fictional.
as the writer and director say on the "making of" segment, they wanted to make Nickolaus more of a person. but the person they've made him is not the real, historical person. it is PG for : mild scary thematic elements, smoking (pipes), lying and minor pagan elements and mythology ( his deceased sister is said to be a 'fairy of the river' where she perished and the inevitable flying sleigh).
on the positive side, the film is made in the mountains of Finland with beautiful cinematography. the production design (the buildings, workshop are very real), directing, acting, general production are all done with excellence. there is a strong dramatic vein in the fictional script. it is very Scandinavian folk tale story telling. but what is troubling is best seen on the back of the DVD. it says in bold letters: 'even the GREATEST STORY has a beginning'. the greatest story is not Santa Clause, it is the Gospel and the life and mission of the Lord Jesus Christ.
as always, i wish each family the wisdom of the Lord in there personal choices for viewing and a blessed Holiday Season. : )
Jessica Mae4 Stars Out Of 5Good but missing the main reason of gift givingNovember 10, 2014Jessica MaeQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3Don't get me wrong the movie itself was good, but it did leave out one of the biggest reasons Saint Nick started giving out presents, and that was because he wanted to spread the Good News. And that bums me out that they left it out. It also left out the how the stockings, well boots, are tied into Santa Clause. This movie was made in Finland, so there was a voice over done in English and the mouths do not match the words, but its not unbearably off. Overall the acting was, the movie message was good, so if you're just looking for another movie about Santa Clause I would recommend it but if you're looking the most important part of Santa Clause, Jesus, then this is not the movie for you.
PattyAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5This is a good movie but sad.November 24, 2013PattyAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4This is a good movie about overcoming hardship and still maintaining a good heart. It is not a Christian movie nor does it tell the story of Christ. However, it is very true to spirit of the Finnish people. They tend to be very responsible, honest and will endure hardship with dignity. Anyway they used to be this way. Maybe comes from having to endure the cold and the dark winters. You learn to make the best out of what you have.

God Loving OH MomNortheastern OhioAge: 35-44Gender: female1 Stars Out Of 5VERY Disappointing MovieNovember 19, 2010God Loving OH MomNortheastern OhioAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1If I could rate this any lower than poor, I would! I watched the whole thing in false hope that it would get better. It DOESN'T!!! It is so slow moving and deeply somber. Not encouraging or uplifting unless you count the times I blinked from boredom or drowsiness...
DO NOT BUY THIS. I wish I could get my money back.
