Justin Yates is in charge of his twins sisters who are approaching 15 years of age. He decides he needs to enlist the help of his neighbor, Marta, to help make sure the girls (Emma and Ella) know the things they'll need to know as they mature. Nice characters with a slight mystery thrown in make this an enjoyable read and introduces us to the town we'll be "living in" in this series.
The Spinsters Next Door by Susan
Rachel's the heir of her father's property, but things are tight so she and her aunt's Priscilla and Lois. While starting to prepare the house they are approached by the schoolmaster, Stephen Worth, inquiring about renting it. He's taken by Rachel, but she's a Mrs., which begs the question of where her husband is. This story explores some of Rachel's past in answering that question.
The Outlaw Next Door by Vickie
Dane McDermott has a past he's not proud of on top of being interested in the preacher's daughter, Regina, whom he doesn't feel good enough for. Lovely story getting to know both of these guys better, with some mishaps along the way. We see glimpses of people from the earlier stories and have two newcomers in this one, the Beaumont twins, who open up a new shop in town.
The Gunslinger Next Door by Susan
Alice has a new neighbor, an older gentleman that thinks he's someone else. Alice does the neighborly thing and brings him treats to eat at times. Meanwhile the postmaster John Goodwin has had a lot of packages to deliver next door, some of them quite heavy. Another page turning story and the last of this novella series, this one also has an element of mystery to it that has John and Alice trying to figure out what those packages mean and if the old gentleman is ok, or suffering from dementia. Great series overall, interconnecting enough to see some characters from the earlier stories at times.
