Written for children ages four to eight, Christmas Love Letters from God cleverly combines both prose and poetry as the story of Jesus birth unfolds. The book includes seven stories, beginning with Isaiahs prophecy and ending with the visit of the wise men. Following each story, the child will find his or her own letter from God, folded into a small envelope attached to the page. Each letter begins with a space in which to write the childs name, so each one can be specially addressed to the child.
Written as if God is speaking, each personalized message gives the young reader a sense of wonder as they discover anew the Christmas holiday and the birth of Jesus. A very special Bible verse, entitled Gods Perfect Promise, also accompanies each story and letter as Gods personal words of love, promise, and hope.
Glenys Nellist was born and raised in a little village in northern England. Her stories and poems have been published in childrens magazines where her writing reflects a deep passion for bringing the Bible to life for young children. Glenys lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with her husband, David.

child? How about if God could speak to your child? Can you imagine the look on your child's face? This book has the next best thing! Each story featured in the book has a love letter from God to your child. The seven Bible stories, centered around Christmas, begin with Isaiah's prophecy to the visit of the three wise men. The illustrations are a beautiful accompaniment to the stories. Children, ages 4-8, will learn so much from the lessons included within the pages.
I read it to some four-year-olds and while the story was a bit too long for their shorter attention spans, they were thrilled to open the love letter and listen to God's words for them. It's almost as good as having your little friend whisper a special secret in your ear.
I rated this book 5 stars and highly recommend it to inquisitive little ones. This would also be a wonderful teaching tool for teachers in Christian schools, Sunday School, and Children's Church.
This book was a gift and my review was my own decision and all opinions expressed are my own.
Fitzysmom5 Stars Out Of 5Review from Rambles of a SAHMNovember 10, 2016FitzysmomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Christmas Love Letters from God is another new edition to our family's 25 days of Christmas books collection. I am especially excited about this one because I love Glenys Nellist's writing and particularly her other Love Letters from God books. The sparkle in my grands eyes when they read a personalized letter from God is absolutely priceless.
The story of Christ's birth is told through seven different sections and they begin with the prophesy in Isaiah. After we hear from Isaiah we switch to Mary and her visit from the angel. Glenys' version of the Magnificat is beautiful. Next is Joseph and his dream. And then the couple are off on their trip to Bethlehem. The story of Christ's birth is told in a way that will stick with you for a long time. Then we get the account of the shepherds and finally the wise men.
While this book isn't probably for the littlest ones on their own. (There are flaps for each of the letters that little hands may tear.) It is sure to be a delight for the whole family year after year. We're in the process of replacing some of our oldest Christmas board books and I am absolutely thrilled with this one. Rachel Clowes' art work and Glenys Nellist's words combine to tell the Christmas story accurately yet uniquely. I'm sure that your family will come to love it as much as ours has.
I was provided a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

I enjoy having the chance to read and review various children's books, and I am excited to have the opportunity to share another Christmas one with you. Christmas Love Letters from God is a book that shares Bible stories related to Christmas and that also includes "letters" that are supposed to be from God to the child who is listening to the stories.
The pictures in this book remind me of paper dolls. I don't dislike them, but they are not as cute as some books out there.
Who the book is for:
I think that babies and toddlers can listen to this book along with their families and that school-aged kids will enjoy it, too.
What I liked:
I like that this book starts with a story of Isaiah. Most children's Christmas stories do not start that far back.
I like the way that the stories are written very true to the Bible.
I like the "letters" that are supposed to come from God for their positive messages...
What I didnt like:
...and yet I don't like them because they are written by humans who are trying to think in the way that God thinks and who are trying to write their own version of his word. I am torn in regard to this book because of those letters.
Overall, I'm not sure what I think of this book. There is much good here and yet I don't really like the letter idea.
I give Christmas Love Letters from God 3 out of 5 stars.

Frosty5 Stars Out Of 5I love this beautiful book!October 12, 2016FrostyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I've read several of Glenys Nellist's books for children and can say this is the best one so far. There is so much to this lovely book. Seven stories are laid out with scripture, one of Glenys's beautiful poems, a letter from God, and a little scripture tucked into the illustration. I could easily see this becoming a tradition to read the week before Christmas, sharing one story a night and writing a letter to God on Christmas Eve or Christmas day. I love that she begins the stories with the prophet Isaiah. She handles the stories of Mary and Joseph with grace and has the wise men visit when Jesus is a bit older. To top off the excellent storytelling, Rachel Clowes' illustrations are fabulous. She uses some interesting techniques and adds in a few trinkets here and there that would be fun for a child to search and find. If you love sharing the Christmas story with children or would just enjoy a beautiful book for the holiday, buy Christmas Love Letters from God. I received this book for free from Zonderkidz.
