Deep and enjoyable
November 23, 2011
The Christian Lover is a sweet read that takes you somewhat by surprise at times. It is a rather unique anthology of letters written by Christians from times past that give us an intimate look into their theology, their lives, their standing with one another and with God. Some of the letters are humorous at times, some deal with tragedy or with sorrow, all are deep and, in some way, encouraging, and all are overflowing with devotion for the Lord and for each other.
This isn't a book for everyone as not everyone would enjoy it (though I do believe that most everyone would benefit from reading it) but it is a great book for husbands and wives or for those who will soon be married. In the pages of The Christian Lover, the glorious beauty of marriage between two Christians who love God and love one another shines through not only in a way that reveals more about the two people involved in the letter but that reveals more about God and enables the reader to catch a glimpse of the possibilities for enhancing their own marriage.
Ultimately, however, these letters are about God. In this aspect alone, this book finds its purpose: God is exalted, magnified and glorified in its pages and because of this, The Christian Lover is a book that can be used to enhance marriages, to encourage deeper and greater knowledge of God and to help Christians to grow in theological soundness. What more could we possibly ask?
