Christ and Conquest: A Christian Reading of the Book of Joshua

In Christ and Conquest, Old Testament scholar George M. Schwab explores the meaning of the biblical book of Joshua and how it connects to the Gospels’ portrayal of Christ and to Christians today.

For each section of the book of Joshua, the author asks: What would the described events have meant in the time of Joshua? What was the historical situation? How does each section warn, encourage, exhort, and teach? What would the book have meant to the Israelites during the time of the exile?

The book also discusses such questions as: How does this text advance the gospel of Jesus Christ? How is it fulfilled in him? How does it anticipate his work? How does the book of Joshua lead the reader to draw closer to Jesus, and serve him with more knowledge and fidelity? What does it say to the church today? How does it yearn for the end of all things? How does it offer hope?

Written in a conversational and even sometimes humorous manner, Christ and Conquest brings a fresh Christian perspective to the book of Joshua.
