Very well written. Loved Mary Beths honesty about her faith. So great to know others are continuing to trust our Lord and walk through very difficult times! I lost my nephew to drowning June 9th that same year and sent many prayers to our savior for the Chapman family.

Equal parts inspiring and sobering, Choosing to SEE has the ability to change people's lives. Mary Beth Chapman clearly writes from the depths of her heart, with no hiding behind "Christianese" or pretending to be the "perfect Christian". Her story is one that will bring tears to your eyes and hope to your heart as you realize that although you will go through tough times, God is holding your hand the whole way through. God promises to never leave us nor forsake us, and Chapman's story so aptly displays this promise to us.

The authors display great skill with the pen, and have written this moving account in an easy to read way that kept the pages flying through my hands. Their candid manner is so refreshing as we walk with the family through the struggles of their marriage, the reality of depression, the joy of adoption, the tragedy that came with the death of their child. How amazing God's grace is that He sustains the family throughout!

People who are struggling through tragedy should pick up this book. People who are worried they are not deserving of God's grace should pick up this book. People who don't want to admit they are Christians struggling with depression should pick up this book. Parents who have tasted the same loss as the Chapmans in losing a child should pick up this book. A message of comfort, of hope, of permission to be human, that you don't have to pretend to be perfect, that God never gives up on us - this is the message that breathes through Choosing to SEE.

Written with great courage, this book deserves a full recommendation, and receives 5 out of 5 stars.

Subtitled, "A Journey of Struggle and Hope," Choosing to SEE is Mary Beth Chapman's story of her life. When I first received the book, I expected it to be about the Chapman family's tragic loss of their daughter Maria in 2008.

Choosing to SEE is that, but it's so much more. Mary Beth begins her story with her growing up years. She tells of her life in candid fashion, which makes her a real person rather than merely the wife of a Christian music artist. Her personal struggles will strike a chord with many readers. The driving force behind Choosing to SEE is her honesty. As she says more than once, her life is nothing like what she had planned.

She introduces the reader to her husband, Steven Curtis Chapman, as a young man struggling with career choices, and her own struggles learning to be a wife. The book details the births of their children, then goes on to share what first interested them in adopting children from China.

The book turns from narrative to short personal reflections in the second half. Mary Beth strives to make sense of what has happened in her family, sharing thoughts and feelings with which many who have lost a loved one will identify. As she grows in her understanding of God's ways, her words bring hope to her readers.

Choosing to SEE is a profound story of one woman's search for God in the midst of darkness. You will finish the book feeling you've had a glimpse into her soul.

This book is going to be a best-seller. Mary Beth Chapman tells with honest candor the story of hers and Steven Curtis Chapman's life together, of the struggles their family has encountered, and the ways God is leading and teaching them through the gut-wrenching trauma of the death of their youngest daughter. This is a book to help the hurting to see that, even in excruciating pain, God is still working. Anyone who has suffered loss or is working with those who have suffered loss (which includes every one of us!) should read this book! I not only read it, but have given away 3 copies and will probably give more!
