Married for nearly 38 years, author Deborah DeArmond and her husband have made the spoken declaration, "I choose you today" a regular part of their communication. Its when we least feel like saying it that we need to remind ourselves that love is a choice, not a feeling. I Choose You Today features 31 scriptural principles that support marriage and help couples develop healthy biblically based behavior.
Built on an introductory anecdotal story, each chapter has an inspirational takeaway of not only what to do, but how to begin applying the principles immediately. Thought provoking questions create talking points for couples to explore their own choices and experiences in each area serve to generate open dialogue of discovery. I Choose You Today is not a book of "shoulds," but one of clearly identified choices that each individual can make to grow their marriage and align it with the word of God. Every saying ends with a conventional wisdom quote.

Kristieupstate NYAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent book that really allows you to apply it to your own relationshipFebruary 12, 2015Kristieupstate NYAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Each and every day and really in each moment we all make choices; choices that all lead to a result or consequence, either positive or negative. Deb DeArmond has written a book encouraging couples to make deliberate choices in choosing each other and choosing to live each day in a way that will make their love last. "I Choose You Today" has 31 chapters in it, and each chapter focuses on a specific choice to make to help couples. I love that each chapter is so specific as it really allows your focus to be on that one thing, for example listening, really listening in a mindful manner. Also, I really like the questions that are at the end of each chapter as this really forces you to reflect on your own relationship and how to apply the choice and concepts discussed to your own relationship. This is a great read, as it broken down into many short chapters making it great to devote a few minutes each morning to reading a chapter and then having all day to really make it a priority and think about it.
Booklover105 Stars Out Of 5Love is a choiceFebruary 10, 2015Booklover10Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I really enjoy marriage books like this. It's great to have one thing to focus on for one day or one week, depending on how long you want the chapter to last and how long you want to focus on each chapter specifically.
The title of the book is one that speaks truth. We make the choice to choose our spouses each day. We choose our attitudes and what we focus in each other. 31 choices can greatly improve your love for your spouse. These choices aren't just for you choosing to love your spouse; it's also challenging the reader to choose to open up and be even more transparent with their spouse.
At the end of each chapter, there are choice questions that are meant for reflection and action. After all, choices aren't meant to just be pondered on, but they are meant to be lived out. The questions aren't necessarily easy if you force yourself to be honest in your answering of the questions.
Lastly, there is a prayer that is written that you can pray or you can write your own prayer. It's an important ending to each chapter because our choices can be fulfilled when God changes our hearts.
With Valentine's Day coming up, this was such perfect timing to read. I can see this being a great book for any married couple to read, whether the marriage is new, old, or just starting out or been going on for years.
I received this book free from Litfuse Publicity Group and Abingdon Press in exchange for my honest opinion of this book.

I Choose You Today ~ nonfiction by Deb DeArmond, 2015
With Scripture and experienced application, Deb DeArmond shares stories in this 31-week topical study how God's Word is revealed in lives yielded to Him. To love and to cherish ~ blossoming when lived in His love and open to more He has in abundance for marriage relationships; a giving heart. Each chapter is followed by Choice Questions and Prayer. A study as a married couple, an engaged couple, as a devotional, for small group, or Bible study, you will be enriched. Choose chapters that speak to you now; study them before going on. This is for you, not to race on, but to gather and apply.
An added benefit would be to journal important aspects that stand out to you. Make it your own. Topics that you might not have thought of with potential ways you can choose, to identify areas for attention and take action to strengthen your commitment. Perhaps you each would like a copy to color-code application areas.
God created marriage; God has the answers.
If we build our lives together on feelings alone, we will fail. Marriage at its very best always requires much more. True commitment, which is an active, demanding, daily choice, will lead us to marriage that happily lasts a lifetime.
--I Choose You Today, 33
Not everything has to be a problem area to be a place for discussion and reflection. You will benefit sharing together wisdom brought out in this book on different subjects you potentially may, or have come across.
"... when the Lord teaches me a principle, he provides opportunities for practice."
Biblical applications ~
Each person made a choice to let go of a program already in progress and adapt to God's direction. Each time, God was faithful.
