Sleiman's Valiant Hearts Series Offers
Unforgettable Heroines

Strong and adventurous Gwendolyn Barnes longs to be a knight like her chivalrous brothers. However, that is not an option for her, not even in the Arthurian-inspired Eden where she dwells. Her parents view her only as a marriage pawn, and her domineering father is determined to see her wed to a brutish man who will break her spirit.

When handsome, good-hearted Allen of Ellsworth arrives in Edendale searching for his place in the world, Gwendolyn spies in him the sort of fellow she could imagine marrying. Yet fate seems determined to keep them apart. Tournaments, intrigue, and battles--along with twists and turns aplenty--await these two as they struggle to find love, identity, and their true destinies.

Chivalrous, by Dina Sleiman, was lovely. Its all about Gwyn, a woman who wants to be herself but is stifled by her parents and her society, and Allen, a common man who is elevated to a position he never desired. Both are thrown into betrothals they dont want but try to make the best of the situation, even as they fall in love with one another. They struggle with their situation, misguided leaders, and social roles on top of the political turmoil of invaders and murder. And did I mention domestic abuse? Gwyns father is a volatile ogre who believes women must completely submit. Themes of domestic abuse, social roles, misguided leaders, and abortion give the sweet romance needed depth and twist the plot. I truly enjoyed Chivalrous and would recommend it to lovers of YA Historical Romance with a strong female protagonist.

This review was written for Chivalrous (Valiant Hearts Book #2) - eBook.
I think this book was even better than the first book "Dauntless". The author's has a knack for writing stories set in medieval times and still make the story, setting, plot & details easily understood and totally understandable!

Gwendolyn would rather fight in the countryside than wear gowns and flirt with royals in court. But that is exactly what is expected of her, now that her father has returned from war.

Harsh, unyielding Lord Barnes is determined to marry Gwen off to the harsh, prideful, domineering Gawain.

To make things worse, Gwen has fallen for Allen of Ellsworth.

Allen long ago lost his heart to the beautiful Lady Merry when he was an outlaw with her and the other children in Farthingale forest. But now that she is engaged to Sir Timothy Grey, Allen knows it's time to strike out on his own.

So he heads off to Britannia, a land that is best known for being like Sir Author's Camelot A place devoted to God and the pursuit of His will.

When he arrives, the city is in the midst of preparation for a grand joust, just the thing for a newly appointed knight to try.

It is here that Gwendolyn and Allen meet and fall in love with each other. But they must decide if their's is a love worth fighting untold odds for. In the twists and turns of this book, Gwen and Allen learn what it means to be truly Chivalrous.

    ♥♥♥

    I. Love. This. Series!!!! And I absolutely love love love Dina Sleiman's books.

The Valiant Heart series continues in Chivalrous with Allen, who was in Dauntless as the spiritual pastor of the Fathingale Forest Ghost. He's recently been promoted to a knight and decides to seek out a different place to live, away from Merry and Timothy.

I loved the fast pace, ever changing story! The characters from book one come into play and Dina introduces characters that are going to be in book three in a epic way! I can't wait until it comes out.

Allen was a favorite of mine in Dauntless and I loved the new characters of Gwendolyn and Rosaland. Both Allen and Gwen are strong, courageous people and the battles, adventures, and missteps they have strengthen them and make them wonderful role models.

I am so excited for book three that's due to come out in July of this year!

I give this book 5/5! Can't wait for more Mrs Sleiman!

Lady Gwendolyn Barnes has always longed to be treated as an equal, both in family life and beyond. Her father is a brute of a man and believes women should be seen and not heard. Thankfully, whenever her father wasnt in town (which was a lot) her brothers and friends taught her how to fight, and fight well. But now hes returned and hes more determined than ever to see her married off to an even more brutish man named Gawain. Allen of Ellsworth longs for a place to call his own, a calling and purpose to fulfill. Still quite broken up about his love for Lady Merry, he seeks just that in Gwens village. They meet and sparks fly. But so many obstacles are in their way. Can they find the strength to follow God even when all seems bleakest?

I really enjoyed Dauntless way back when it released and I read it for review, despite my slight dislike for its main character. I had a little bit of the same problem here (Gwen still wasnt as likable as I hope for in a MC) but can I say, this was a huge step up for this series! I should mention that if you havent heard of this series, they can definitely be read as standalones, but it was quite fun to see what became of the characters from Dauntless in this book! Merry, Timothy, Cedric, Red...all of them make appearances. And Allen was always my favorite character in the first book, so reading his story was the best part! *thumbs up*

Oh, Allen. If you havent already guessed, I just adored him. ;) Strong, fearless, faithful, aware of his own faults. He was truly a perfect hero! And Gwen, though impossibly stubborn (though you understood why), was a great heroine as well. Her journey was rocky, and I had a lot of sympathy for her character. Even though it was set in medieval times with circumstances not of this age or explicitly relevant to me at all, I still could relate with Gwen and her struggles on a level that surprised me. And that is an amazing display of talent from the author!

If you enjoy fairytale-esque books, this is for you. Set in medieval times with wonderful adventure, sweet romance, and portraying genuine struggles of the heart--Chivalrous was even better than the first in this series. Plus, look at that cover! The model portrayed is really a perfect Gwen. A great, easy, and clean YA read good for both teens and adults! I read this one along with my little sister and we both loved it. Im just sorry it took me so long to finish it and share with you.

*I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

This Arthurian inspired story is a fitting sequel to the Robin Hood influences in the first book, Dauntless. You don't have to read the first book in order to enjoy this one, but if you have, you'll already be acquainted with Allen of Ellsworth. So glad he gets his own swashbuckling tale -- can you say swashbuckling in relationship to knights? Ah well, I did, and it's an apt description because there's plenty of action, a few nefarious characters and one truly reprehensible villain to be thwarted.

A good versus evil theme sets the backdrop for the inspirational thread about placing your trust in God. Now that doesn't mean you sit back and do nothing while waiting for a miracle to happen. Definitely not if you are a heroine like Gwen. She's determined to have a say in her future, despite the ominous grumblings of her domineering father.

Left to her own devices for much of her childhood, Gwen trained with her brothers and experienced untold freedom for a genteel female. That has shaped the woman she has become so is it any wonder culture shock ensues when her absentee father returns home with the intent of marrying her off to a most unsuitable suitor?

Talk about clash of wills. Mayhem ensues along with intrigue and dastardly deeds that threaten the fledgling love between Allen and Gwen. Remember what I said about placing your trust in God? What a challenge for this hero and heroine to desperately cling to. I love how the author conveys how they grow in faith and their determination to be true to it.

There are some darker threads in this tale as well. In particular, a secondary character, Rosalind faces a heartbreaking struggle which doesn't reach a conclusion in this novel. Thankfully, Rosalind is the heroine for the third and final installment in the Valiant Hearts series. Courageous comes out in July 2016. I can't wait!
