I liked the book but really.... if the story is supposed to be something to look forward to the publishing company should not give details in the beginning of the book that tells you about the ending. No fun at all. the suspense is gone kind of.

If you want a surprise do not read the family tree in the beginning of the book. It should have been in the end.

other then that the book was fun reading.

The Chisholm Trail Bride by Kathleen Y'Barbo. I enjoyed seeing how this played out with the young man who was supposed to be dead.. but was not! I enjoyed riding along the Chisholm trail and enjoyed the trip full of surprises, danger and hard work.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Barbour Publishers my review is voluntary.

This is book twelve from the Daughters of the Mayflower series. However I feel it is a stand alone book. I have read some but not all in this series, so I may have missed some history but I was not lost.

If you enjoy reading historical romance with mystery and lots of sparks you will love this one. Eliza Gentry is full of spunk. She is strong willed and loyal. When tragedy happens on the Chisholm trail life changes for Eliza. As she grows up she must live with consequences of decisions she has made and try to make right a wrong.

This is book 12 in The Daughters of the Mayflower series from Barbour Publishing. It is a multi-author series and this is the third book by Kathleen YBarbo in the series. She is a tenth-generation Texan and writes Texas fiction. I think this is my favorite book of YBarbo so far. I absolutely loved the story of Eliza Gentry. Eliza grew up on a ranch in Texas. She was an independent spirited girl and loved going on the Chisholm Trail cattle drives with her father. Her favorite part was lying in bed at night and studying the stars.

Once Eliza became an adult she became betrothed, against the wishes of her parents, to the son of a judge. The son, Ben Barnhart, was a boy that Eliza had grown up with. He was a hot tempered pushy man who thought he was above the law because of his family. He was seeking a career as a politician and was working his way up the ladder to run for the governor of Texas. There was a rift between the Gentry and Barnhart families because of something that happened in their childhood. Elizas father did not trust Ben so he hired a detective and protector for Eliza named John Brady to shadow her and keep Ben away from her. It would prove to be more of a challenge than anyone could have imagined.

This was my first book by Kathleen Y'Barbo but it definitely won't be my last! Once I started this book, I truly could not put it down. Breath-taking, toe-curling, squeal out loud! This book has it all and with twists and turns that hold the reader from the first page!

I recommend this book for lovers of historical fiction!
