Tell us a little about yourself. The Cherish novel series (this is book two) is faith-filled, gentle, Christian fiction. Each book follows the main character (young Rev. Andy Garrett) and his family. City-boy Andy's first church in rural Cherish, Illinois, provides the background for stories that draw the reader to an inspirational ending. I invite you to visit Cherish and get to know its endearing people. I also invite you to visit my web site (DebbyLJohnston.com) where you'll find my weekly blog and a link to my author Facebook page. I look forward to hearing from you!
What was your motivation behind this project? Two things have led me to write the Cherish novels. One: our home is bursting with stories of our 40 years of ministry in several different churches. Two: no book would be complete without the message of salvation clearly expressed. Our world needs hope, and there is no greater message of hope than that of Grace!
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? No one who reads my books will go away in shock, embarrassment, or disgust. Instead, I pray they will feel welcomed into a family and feel the nudge of God at work.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Although the books are fictionalized, the themes are spiritual fact. It is a joy to add stories from my life experience to paper and be able to share them as widely as possible. And I feel privileged to pass along the life-changing power of redemption and my own journey of faith.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? My parents and grandparents gave me a solid background in faith, and I was blessed to attend Judson University, a fabulous Christian school that enlarged my faith family and experience. I have also grown in the fellowship of every church my husband and I have served. Christian literature has always helped increase my thirst for a deeper draught of living water. I enjoy Christian biographies, like "Rees Howells: Intercessor" by Norman Grubb and "Mission Possible" by Marilyn Laszlo. And I like the fiction of Jan Karon--but I wanted to more explicitly express the story of Christ in my books.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I am blessed whenever someone tells me how something in the books has encouraged them. And I am surprised at how my stories have made it around the world. I already have readers as far away as Thailand and Australia! God is good and His truth is powerful. I am humbled that He has allowed me this avenue for expressing His love!
